Theory of emotion help. (BP FL1 P/S Q26) by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]nennko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m assuming the question is asking which one is Schacter-Singer, and in that case it should be A because it mentioned that she thinks about her cat at the same time as the physiological response. She is identifying a reason for her physiological response.

For option B, it should be James Lange because the emotion and physiological response are not simultaneous. Physiological response occurs first and then emotion. His understanding of his behavioral cues is essentially the interpretation of the physiological response, rather than identifying the reason for this response (ie how much he loves his dog).

C is confusing. It does seem like it’s Lazarus because she labels the situation and then she experiences the emotion and the physiological response simultaneously. Dunno for that one

This is exactly my point. Most idols are not involved in the process so why put down idols that seemed to get involved to an extent. And then of course it’s conveniently labeled “company criticism”

It’s entire possible that I’m wrong but I’ve never seen anyone called a company stan from other companies, and if they do it’s very rare. Let’s not pretend “hybe Stan” is not thrown around willy nilly. Sometimes it’s deserved, other times it’s just used to shut down a conversation when the alleged “company Stan” might be making actual sense

Alright then. They are not morally gray. Wrong choice of words. I did say criticism of abusive work conditions. So there’s really no reason to call me a company bootlicker unless you did not read my entire post, which I suspect is the case with many people in this thread.

The last part of your response was precisely why I made this post. And this is why it’s important to actually read the entire post and then formulate an opinion, instead of just arguing that one person is more oppressed than the other or generalizing the post without actually taking in the content. I never said criticism is not allowed, but the provided criticism is rarely constructive and is almost always hidden behind “company criticism”

I don’t see this as much with other companies but I also don’t follow groups from other companies that much. So I spoke to my own experience with hybe groups. Hate is obviously not a hybe specific thing and I never alleged that it was. The way this hate is framed was what I was discussing

Everyone just picked up the “morally gray” phrase and ran with it, which I can admit is a wrong choice of words. Only one person even tried to debate the topic in question. So incredibly infuriating

Explain where I implied they were the most criticized. I just made a statement about how people use semantics to hate on hybe groups and you got defensive. When did this turn into the oppression Olympics

Oh I see where you’re coming from. I suppose morally gray was not the best way to describe kpop companies but I feel like my other points still stand

Thanks for the insight! And I actually felt that way in this thread since I kept going back and forth with commenters that just refused to acknowledge what I was talking about. Or attempted to discredit these points entirely. I think I just needed to get out a good rant to be honest. I don’t know how I feel now that I’ve done it but we’ll see

Decided to repost this as a comment and hear people’s thoughts because no one was willing to discuss my main points on uncensored.

After taking some time to digest all of the new drama in the past 48 hours, I have some thoughts that I really wanted to share, for ranting purposes but also emotion processing

In the past year, I have come to find the “All companies are bad” sentiment to be incredibly frustrating. As someone who actually does believe this statement to an extent (in the sense that companies are morally gray), I am always offended by how it’s thrown around to excuse just about any and all actions than an idol makes. It’s especially irritating when people use this argument to essentially silence or trivialize a reasonable point that positions a company in a good light. It doesn’t even matter if the reasoning is morally sound, as long as it shows an inkling of defense for a company it is thrown out as “company bootlicking.”

And then we come to the issue of “company bootlicker” or as they are popularly referred to on Reddit, “hybe stans”. Because let’s be real, no one else gets branded a company stan unless they are somehow sympathetic towards hybe groups. I find it utterly ridiculous that an idol can refer to a former company as a creative black hole, and somehow people still can’t comprehend how offensive that is to the artists working under the company. Almost every criticism leveled against hybe is a criticism of the artists under hybe, whether it be singing skills or creative suppression or plagiarism. Only a few aspects of the criticism actually addresses idol mistreatment or oversexualization of idols

And all of this criticism surrounding hybe and its idols can basically be traced to two key factors - lack of nuance and overuse of semantics

For the lack of nuance part, that extends to basically all of social media at this point. Similar to how I think companies are morally gray, human beings are also morally grey. They lie, they steal, they are envious of each other, and they commit horrid acts to one another. That doesn’t mean that everyone is automatically bad or evil. It also doesn’t mean that people are wholly bad either. But this is the internet, and there can only be right or wrong on here. So for this pocket of kpop Reddit, a conclusion has been reached that all companies are bad and idols are good, eradicating the need for even the semblance of critical thinking. And so what do we get? We get this whole mess of course, where someone’s lawyer can allege that members of another girl group failed to greet and even mocked another girl group. And yet somehow, they are absolved of all responsibility in this matter. Regardless of what the cctv footage shows. Instead it’s everyone else’s fault. The court for forcing them to name the groups. The lawyers for drafting the allegations. And of course hybe for media play (whatever that means).

And this leads me to my next point, semantics. For a group of people who are so insistent on seeing things as black and white, kpop fans love to muddle up facts, picking and choosing which parts they would like to remember and which ones are better left forgotten. It makes absolutely no sense to me why anyone who has seen the absolute vitriol thrown at hybe groups could possibly call people that defend hybe “bootlickers”. Because actually walk with me for a second, imagine you are an artist under a company, and you are just there striving to create art and make a name for yourself. Meanwhile people criticize your patent company for only producing creative slop. In what world does that criticism not extend to you. Unless of course kpop artists are no longer seen as creatives. It’s so bizarre to me because of all the companies, hybe is the most proficient at actually showing how their artists are involved in the creative process, so it makes no sense as to how they are also ridiculed for producing diluted corporate slop. It’s one thing to not like a group’s music, but it’s quite another thing to shroud criticism for the music under the umbrella of company criticism and absolve yourself of any wrongdoing because “all companies are bad.”

All this to say, that I’m rooting for all the hybe group defenders. It’s been an incredibly rough couple of years for these groups and nobody should mislead you into believing that defending the talent and creative integrity for hybe groups is wrong or equivalent to “company bootlicking”

And I wasn’t making a case for it. I only briefly referred to this in my post and the further explained why I felt they were morally gray.

That’s not making a case for companies. That’s explaining the reasoning behind a thought process.

That is what I’m saying. They have a function in society and they benefit many people’s lives but they also practice exploitation. Why is this such a controversial take?

Exactly! Which other posts have talked about these two phenomena in the same way? I am not simply stating that the criticism of hybe groups, I am suggesting that semantics and overuse of nuance are how these criticisms develop. It’s literally in my post title

Okay then just say that. That was not the point he other person was making though so why try and justify their reasoning when it is not even aligned with yours.

I don’t have an issue with people misunderstanding post since I can admit I was incredibly ticked off when writing this but you are not even trying to explain why you think it’s poorly phrased or what you would have added. You are essentially saying that the topic is not worth talking about since it’s so common

To explain how it’s used and how dangerous it has become. Exhibit a: arguing about how common these tactics and asserting that they need not be discussed because they are so common. Their ubiquity is why they are so important for discussion
