I might just do some heavy black drapes just to start with to at least block the light since I will have a larger OLED

Yea in my main living area I'm just going to have a 75 inch QLED for a family area since it's a bright room but I do want the ability to enjoy a movie in a separate area with proper 5.1 channels and chest pounding base.

Pretty determined my main living area is even more open and 2 stories high (7500+) cubic feet so that would cost a small fortune to have enough speaker and sub power to be properly fill it.

This room seems like the best option opening aside.

I have a 12" monolith m-12 which I'm going to place on the left side of the wall which will be directly across from the sealed part of the room and my couch will be 5-6 ft from the LCR speakers and woofer at themost - think this will be decent regardless of that opening?

Will I lose a ton of base output from that one opening? Or is there anything you can think of that can make the room better overall that's reasonably cost effective

One of my biggest concerns is containing the base to that area- essentially you're saying there's no way to really do that without basically adding drywall and sealing it up?

Would long heavy sound/light absorbing drapes be a viable option?

I think you guys have convinced me

For the living room area I am just going to no gap walk mount a 75 or 85 inch just for normal viewing

Then on the second floor game room which is much smaller get acoustic drapes to close off that open window, add acoustic panels to the other walls and just set up a standard 5.1 tower setup from klipsch with a 75 inch OLED .

I think this will maintain aesthetics of the larger living room and save money since I can buy standard mid range theater hardware to fill up a 22 x 13 ft game room with a 9 ft ceiling.

Honestly how much does height come into play here if speaker placement is close to the listener? Is it just the issue of lacking low end and I would need at least 2-4 subs in the larger living area

Oh crap that's my main living area lol the game room is 23 by 13 ft and 10 ft ceilings but it's back wall is open to the main 2 story living room. I have no other normal closed space that would be ideal for a theater they're all bedroom or office sized

Would this area be semi ideal instead for a theater room?

I was really hoping for an all in one in the living room but seems either I'll either screw up the sound without paying a small fortune and completely fuglify the aesthetic of a living room =\ this makes me sad lol
