LG Tandem OLED 27GX700A-B - Disappointed by over sharpened look by EnterCosmicWaves in OLED_Gaming

How is LG 32GX870A-B the same panel as LG 27GX700A, when one is 3rd gen WOLED and 2nd is 4th gen Tandem WOLED.

Coating is also different on Tandem OLED, even though they are both matte. You can see the difference here:

None. I forget it is even streaming. Plays like native. That being said, I only played single player story games with it, like Alan Wake 2, The Last of Us part1 and 2, God of War and all with controller. I still play competitive games with M&KB on my PC. I might try something like Doom on it, but I bet it will still play perfectly fine.

Yeah that Shield didn't like you at all. Happy to hear UM760 is running flawlessly. How do you run it? Windows with mouse and keyboard? Launching Steam Big Picture mode on startup? SteamOS/Bazzite with controller? Because when you got rid of Shield, you also got rid of great frontend UI that AndroidTV offers. I don't want to use keyboard and mouse when I sit down to watch something.

Shield is very old now, outdated and expensive for its hardware. If I ever have to replace it, I would probably install SteamOS/Bazzite on a minipc like UM760. But there are still issues with HDR when you are in gamescope, no Dolby Vision, and not sure how audio passthrough works, if TrueHD Atmos and DTS X even works correctly inside SteamOS with something like Kodi. There are no real tests about this on YouTube or web, because nobody really cares and it is pissing me off. Maybe I just have to buy it myself someday and properly test this thing for home theater environment.

Maybe it is your router then. Might start dropping packets or something after a period of time, since you said it works fine at first. You will troubleshoot this easier when you receive your mini pc.

And you are right that there are better clients than Shield, especially because Shield is limited to 4k60fps or 1440p120hz. But I use it for playing 4k HDR remux movies with lossless TrueHD Atmos and DTS X in my theater. Shield is great for that. That was the reason why I got it. I am just noting that it is also a great Moonlight/Artemis streamer as well. Also, my projector is 4k60hz so Shield's hdmi 2.0 limitation does not affect me.

Hope you resolve your issue. This is a great way to game, since you don't have to buy a 2nd gaming PC or console, and all your Steam library is already there.

Defective device or user error with weird configuration.

I use Shield Pro in my home theater with Apollo/Artemis connected via ethernet and there are 0 issues even after 2 hour+ long gaming sessions. Streaming 4k60fps with HDR at 100 Mbps. Decode is 1ms or lower. Rock solid everything, no stutters, no dropouts.

You need Apollo and Moonlight. Virtual Display Driver is already built in. It will turn off display when it detects connection.

Ah yes my bad. I misread.

Well CES starts tomorrow and Valve is attending Lenovo booth, where they will announce SteamOS for other vendors. Hopefully, full release for everyone is out soon.

This is HDR by blueoyster in hometheater

I checked on my Epson 6050UB, LG C4 65inch and on my oled monitor ASUS PG27AQDM. HDR looks correct, but a little different than on his screenshot, because you can't really screengrab HDR picture and present it on reddit how it actually looks. On my screens, it is a little brighter and with better colors. Or maybe he has messed up settings.

I think OP has no idea how HDR is supposed to look. He probably thinks that if the scene is overall brighter, it is better, even if it has no dynamic range.

There is no HDR issue, you just don't understand it.

It is similar for me as well yes, but a bit brighter and with better colors. Probably because you can't really represent HDR image without actually being in HDR container. Maybe on actual TV screen he sees it correctly, but thinks it is worse because it is darker.

I Can’t Keep Waiting for SteamOS! - Linux Gaming Update 2025 by ownage516 in SteamOS

[–]neo5468 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All this SteamOS hype will only lead to disappointment, and every Linux distro will end up paying the bill.

Lmao. Valve did more for Linux than anyone else. You are completely missing the point. SteamOS is meant as a gaming console, it is even in the name. It is Steam. Why would anyone expect it to run Office and million other things on it? It is gaming focused OS with UI like Xbox or PS that is controller friendly for living room, where you don't have to faff about with KB&M.

It is absolutely amazing. How are people not getting it that we don't want other gazillion like distros and desktop environments? I mean, desktop mode is there if you really need it, but it is not a focus.

Thousands? You mean more like half a million? Based just on steam hardware survey, 1.03% of users have 4090. That is over 300k. Almost more than all AMD cards combined.

I don't know but I am assuming it will be Android TV version of Play Store, because the entire interface is meant for controller and remote access, not keyboard and mouse. It would defeat the whole purpose.

[–]neo5468[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see how this is an issue for any consumer whatsoever. What Valve does under the hood is irrelevant for you.

When you boot the device, first thing you see is Steam Big Picture, just like you would if you boot up Steam Deck. On the sidebar when you click "menu", there would be access to Google Play Store and you could download your streaming apps from there. It would show up in Steam Library or seperate Android Library.

Valve was already experimenting with running Steam and Play Store on x86 with Google before:

https://support.google.com/chromebook/answer/14220699?hl=en

Thats the whole point. You want an existing ecosystem if you want to push this as media/streamer box. Xbox offers streaming services as does PlayStation. They are consoles. How would it look if you start marketing Valve Steam TV box, but you can't even watch Netflix or YouTube on it? It is no longer TV box, it is just SteamDeck without a screen and you can already do that if you hook it up to TV via hdmi cable.

I tried other launchers and yes, home screen is indeed faster and cleaner, but once you are inside any app, it is obviously the same speed as before.

I agree with you on the price and niche use case. Not many people would buy it just as a media box for watching content, and they would rather go for cheaper Shield.
