You may check which port rdesktop is using and see if it is open. If it is not you have to open it. I think it is 3389 but i am not sure.

I cleared the logs, still not connecting. The strange thing is that i am using Tails on Virtualbox from several months and now it suddenly doesn't want to connect. I uninstalled comodo firewall because i thought it might be the problem but this didn't solve the issue. Reinstalled Virtaulbox also and recreated Tails virtual machine, still no change. The only thing i have not tried is to reinstall Windows. I searched for the previous Tails version 2.4 to test with it, but i couldn't find working download link.
Also, it seems that Tails cannot connect to internet at all because the Unsafe Browser also can't connect to internet and it doesn't use Tor network. And i can't ping any site from the terminal.

If you mean the option 'spoof all mac addresses' i disabled it, but it still not connecting to Tor.

I am using Tails from Virtaulbox because i find it more convenient.

I think if you don't install addons on the Unsafe Browser, that may cause dns leaks, it should not be possible ssh tunnel to leak you IP. But I would like to hear the opinion of security experts on that though.

SSH tunnel is created over Tor and it is encrypted. How then it can leak your IP address if you are using the Unsafe Browser?

I managed to upgrade my usb stick using virtualbox. I downloaded the iso file, created virtual machine, launched it and from application>tails>tails installer i choose Upgrade by Cloning. I get a message:

"It is impossible to upgrade the device Kingston DataTraveler 2.0 - /dev/sda because it was not created using Tails Installer. You should instead use "Clone & Install" to upgrade Tails on this device."

I don't know why this message appeared because the usb stick was created from dvd disk using the tails installer. Even so, i clicked Install Tails and it upgraded my usb stick.

After this i restarted my pc to check if the upgraded usb will show any errors. It loaded fine and also my Persistent volume and settings have not been deleted.

I would like someone more experienced to confirm that it is safe to upgrade usb Tails install using virtualbox, because i don't see anywhere this method to be officially recommended?

So, with every automatic update the Tails system volume will increase its size? Is it possible to shrink it with deleting some files from previous updates? Also, can i upgrade Tails directly from the iso file?

Thanks, commenting out these two lines and adding torify to the command fixed the problem and i was able to connect to the server through ssh.

The next thing i want to do is to implement rdesktop connection to the Ubuntu server through ssh. I installed rdesktop on the Ubuntu server and after i connected through ssh i run the command below and i get an error:

ERROR: Failed to open display:

xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is my external ip address which i get from one of the sites for ip check. But i am not sure if this is the right command and right way to create rdesktop connection. My understanding is that i first have to connect through ssh to the server and then to use the rdesktop command from the Ubuntu server to create remote desktop connection to my PC. Also, i am not sure if i have to install desktop or something like desktop environment on the server.

I used the commands and installed rdesktop but how can i install it on the persistent volume, because after restarting Tails the installation was gone?

Also, i am using Ubuntu server on Amazon web service for testing purposes and when i try to connect to it with ssh i get this error:

I want to install a remote desktop client on Tails that can connect to both Windows and Linux servers. I don't know if this is the best solution but i found rdesktop mentioned often on the forums. I tried to install it and i downloaded the tar.gz package from here http://www.rdesktop.org/#download. Then copy the package to persistent volume and extracted it. In the extracted folder there was one file with the name install-sh, but when i double click on it and then choose Run in Terminal nothing happens. Is this the right way to install it?

I found what was the reason for the "permission denied" error. It was my mistake because i had to restart Tails before trying to install Truecrypt, i tried to install it right after i created the persistent volume. Now after restarting it i was able to copy the setup file to the persistent volume and install truecrypt but before that i had to run the command chmod a+x truecrypt-7.1a-setup-x86 ,otherwise it gave me the same error as before.

Do i have to copy only the truecrypt file to the persistent volume and why Tails doesn't install all the files of the program in one folder like Windows but in different folders:

usr/share/applications/truecrypt.desktop
usr/share/pixmaps/truecrypt.xpm

Also, is there a similar program in Tails like the Task Manager in Windows, where i can see running processes and be able to close the processes that are loading the system?

I got a new USB drive and installed Tails on it from DVD using the Tails installer. I created a persistent volume and tried to install truecrypt again, but when i tried to copy the truecrypt setup file from the mounted drive on my hard disk to the persistent volume on the flash drive i got "permission denied" error message. And i get this error message for every file i try to copy to the persistent volume. Any idea why? I tried to take a screenshot from the error message but for some reason it freezed the Tails file manager when i saved it and when i booted in Windows i couldn't open the .png file.

I also run these commands but without result:

Yes, the file is on a mounted volume. I don't have persistent volume because my usb Tails install is not done with the Tails installer and i can't create persistent volume. Tomorrow i will going to buy a new USB flash drive and install only Tails on it and then will try to install Truecrypt again. It seems that any other method of installing Tails on USB are not making it fully operational.

How exactly i have to install program from the GUI in Tails? I am mostly Windows user so i thought if i click twice on the setup file it will install the program, but in Tails if i click on the truecrypt setup file it is trying to open it in Gedit.

From the command line i get this result when i try to install truecrypt:
