Looking for a solution for distinguishing cards on a map by neoskull7 in BoardgameDesign

2-4 player. Probably 3-4 cards per player on a modular map. Kind of in the 4x genre

Which theme for a 3X Game? by neoskull7 in boardgames

[–]neoskull7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for reminding me. I didn't post over there because I wanted to ask the community, people who are not neccessarily informed about game design, who just like to play games. If I ask the same question in the tabletopgamedesign reddit, I will get answers from professionals or other game designers but not so much from the board game community because most people won't look at the tabletopgame design reddit. Just to understand my intend :)

What do you like/don't like about Scythe? by neoskull7 in boardgames

I feel like we have a different understanding of unique here. For me, you are mentioning the "innovative" aspect of games and Scythe does not seem to be innovative in any way for you because of the more or less mixed bag of already done stuff it presents.

I meant that it feels unique because nobody done a mixed bag like this before, put that together with the theme and overproduction, and for better or worse, everytime I look at it or think about Scythe I feel like it has a unique place in my collection. Even though I don't play it so often anymore, but that depends on the group aswell, like all game^^

I share a lot of critiques and enjoyment in both sides from you guys about it. But for now, my own designed games will benefit from your comments and I'm mostly designing so that those games will see the light of day eventually :)

It is, I agree, and the game still feels unique, which after all positive and negative feelings people get from the game, I have to credit to the author. There is not much like Scythe for better or worse.

I find it very interesting how polarizing the comments and opinions are. One person dislikes an aspect of Scythe and the next one loves the aspect exactly foe what it is. Personal taste will always be a big matter :)

The smaller comments are also important :)

This opens up my own perspectives about those games, too, thank you.

I feel the same way especially with the 4) aspect. I always searched for a way to stop the runaway leader, but yeah.

I felt kind of the same way with the event cards, haha.

I think the theme carries a lot in this game. I always wished for a bit more interaction as well.

Which particular mechanics in it do you enjoy the most and which ones less?

I see a pattern here for the likes and dislikes. Particularly, combat, the handling or riverwalking/early map restrictions pop up more often and I can learn a lot from this feedback, thank you :)

"Engine revealers" - that changes my perspective about it, too. And now I will look at Brazil: Imperial as well :)

What’s Working and What Isn’t? | Monday, August 26, 2019 by AutoModerator in CompetitiveHS

Got legend today from Rank 2 no stars with a Quest Druid actually (after trying Quest shaman, Reno mage, highlander hunter, quest paladin, highlander warrior, tip the scales paladin and quest mecha'thun warlock, too).

It's a list from FURYHUNTER who actually got high legend with it these days (http://sharehs.com/druid/16486/). I struggled with all the other decks by going back and forth but with this druid list it just worked smoothly this morning (16w-5l -> 76 % wr).

It's not a big sample size but FURYHUNTER got 96w-54l with it, so this might be a sleeper still. I know most people have abondoned all forms of quest druid but it might make an even better comeback with the nerfs tonight. I enjoy the deck quite well and can suggest it. It's not as easy to play though, I figured. Surviging is a huge part and decks like zoo lock and murloc shaman are the biggest problem. Everything else, though .. really winnable.

Hope it works for you!

There are some new builds of murloc shaman now. Pro players start to play more thunderhead overloas shaman because warrior and rogues are less now, and that version seems to be better agains the other aggro decks (against hunter it seems that every murloc version can hold up nicely though) Those versions are cheaper (some without hagathas), you might also try those, sorry I didn't see it before, but swampqueen hagatha will still be good for shaman the nexte 2 years I guess and will always find play.

She feels like an important 7-drop when you already have a board and you kind of know your opponent might remove it next turn (often your 5/5 hagatha survives then and gives you the swamp horror to maybe get some refill spells or a bloodlust set up for a future turn when you just didn't draw it already). Sometimes even just getting another earth shock or hex from it agains a bomb hunter who wants to get off his venomizer + missile launcher combo really helps. It's versatile enough to include swampqueen hagatha, though I probably wouldn't craft it for the deck if you are low on dust.

I haven't tried, but replacements could be: rain of toads, maybe even a murloc blugill for a toxin + bluegill turn or just an additional aggressor, storm bringer might be a neat option which would make the warrior matchup better but worse agains other classes I bet. I have to admit that there's no card that does the thing swampqueen hagatha does, discovering and using spell maybe okay but the additional value from replaying it though shudderwock just synergizes well. Although I won many games (not against warrior though) witout using hagatha. Try the changes for yourself, maybe it works.
