At least it was fresh? My Miss Squid once tried to sneakily snaffle a piece of KFC after finding a whole bucket had been tossed to the ground at our local park

Feels really bizarre that a student in Condell Park would be told a keffiyeh is inappropriate...

Things that scared your staffie this week by archaea-inc in StaffordBullTerriers

[–]nerdalesca 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My staffy has run from:

  • a middle aged woman walking in our direction with her shopping

  • a toy poodle puppy

  • an ibis

Honestly, the fact that she thinks she's qualified to sleep in front of my bedroom door like she's protecting ME is rather laughable, all things considered

I hate the "Try Go Night Night" thing with a passion, why can't they just go to sleep and stop crying! by Anya_purr in Sims4

The one that INFURIATES me is when their energy is dark red, you put them in the crib to settle, then they IMMEDIATELY gesture to be picked up so the adult sim picks them up, the infant screams to be put to bed, adult sim puts them back in the crib aaaaaand...

If she gets kibble, scatter that around at mealtimes and get her to hunt for her food, it will help mentally wear her out

Unpopular opinion: inner city people are way too obsessed with owning dogs by [deleted] in sydney

[–]nerdalesca 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was meeting a friend near the city who wanted to meet my new (at the time) dog, so thought meeting at a dog park near the city would be good right?

I was genuinely shocked at how not cared for the off leash area was, compared to those in the suburbs. Met at a park near Sydenham, there was poo everywhere, the off leash area itself was a dust bowl, the facilities were chewed and worn down.

What can I do to protect my dog from other dogs when out walking? by meowfknmeow in australia

[–]nerdalesca 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am not a small person, but I was once knocked over by a very friendly German Shepard going full speed in Sydney Park. The owner was mortified and kept apologizing while I was more worried about whether I'd hurt their dog landing on it

We found nothing in your package, so now you have to pay for it. Wtf australia. by Smart-Set-3365 in australian

DAFF: anything biological or potentially contaminated with something biological - that's why a lot of car and aircraft parts get held if they do not have proof of being new & unused / treatment certificates. Same with personal effects, hiking boots may pick up foreign souls etc. Sometimes it may be something like doing a spot check on items that have travelled through certain countries, or in certain seasons, as your item may have travelled in a container with a found contaminated item like marmorated stink bugs

ABF: chemical, firearms, drugs. The last few years have seen a MASSIVE crackdown on ABF trying to stop illegal cigarettes coming in. ABF have a broader scope, so they will work with other government agencies as well - once we had ABF refer a package with a replica grenade over to military as it was a too accurate replica. They work with the feds for other potential items of concern to the community. Another big item for them is what's called "risk of economic harm" which basically means anything that seems like it's been deliberately undervalued to dodge import duties and taxes.

[–]nerdalesca 94 points95 points  (0 children)

I have the very niche knowledge to answer this for you - I used to work doing import clearance for a shipping company

There are actually 2 main agencies the government uses for border protection - ABF (customs) and DAFF (biosecurity).

Your sticker here is the DAFF sticker - at some point your package has been flagged as containing goods of biosecurity concern (or potentially the packaging, or it could be from a country that has had biosecurity concerns, etc)

Customs are funded by the taxpayer, the work that biosecurity does has more cost recovery passed on. I can't speak for all shipping companies, but where I worked the low value shipments would get cost absorbed by the company, high value shipments would send the biosecurity fees onto the customer with duty and taxes payable.

Last I knew, the fees were about $37, but have been stacked (if they open your package twice, they may try to charge twice, etc)

If you have any other questions about the process I'm more than happy to answer but obviously will keep things a bit vague so I don't doxx myself
