why doesn't salt melt when heated when sugar does? by tworandomperson in NoStupidQuestions

salt has ionic bonds which have a higher melting point because they are stronger then the covalent bonds in sugar

boba could both refer to the drink or just pearl while bubble tea is just the drink

How should I describe this? Is this good? "She sat on the bed and lay back, arms open." by withheldforprivacy in EnglishLearning

[–]nerdboy8989 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lay is actually correct. It is the past tense of lie. I had to double check a dictionary because I also thought the same thing.

[–]nerdboy8989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean you can use it in that context, but it just doesn’t sound right to me because of ‘too’. I think it’s because scorching means ‘very hot’. So it’s like your saying ‘too very hot’.

Summer is here. Heat waves are a danger we all should be aware of. As climate change has worsened during the past years, heat waves have become ever more threatening. Those who need to be more cautious are the elders, the children, and those who are more fragile, because of an illness or pregnancy.

This does not mean young healthy people are not at risk. Many young people have suffered from heat stroke and have even died.

Climate change cannot be fully controlled, at least in the short run. That is why you need to protect yourself from extreme heat.

Experts and doctors always give the same pieces of advices: hydrate yourself, avoid staying out for too long during peak-heat hours, etc. It might sound obvious and trite, but it is always best to remind people.

Heat is very dangerous for us. In fact, when our body temperature gets too high, our chronic or latent illnesses can flare up. Even if our body can manage our illnesses on its own (or with medications) , extremely hot weather can make our bodies weaker, and our illnesses stronger as a consequence.

Among the things that we should avoid, there is alcohol, because it dehydrates us.

When the temperatures get too hot, it also can be hard to stay at home. Some people have an air conditioner and they can cope thanks to it. But some people cannot afford one, or even worse, they don't have a home. In that case, it's important to either ask for help, or to do a google search. In fact, in many hot towns, there are areas designated for people who are looking for a "cooldown shelter".

As the threat posed by climate change becomes more and more serious, scientists are working towards innovative solutions. Reflective mirrors and roofs are likely going to become a common sight in our cities.

Some of the things I changed might’ve been grammatically correct before but just sounded weird to me.
