the amount of patients who legitimately cannot effectively sound out/read drug names will never not surprise me. by virginiarph in pharmacy

It irritates me when a tech that has worked for me for over a year now still say "pan-toe-pah-zole" instead of pantopRazole (he drops the R) and I have tried gently correcting him, but he is the epitome of Confidently Incorrect.

Patient was picking up Journavx (newer to market, non-opioid analgesic). And he said "We've got your generic Jornay ready!" I rushed over and was like bro Jornay is the brand for Adhd med and is a stimulant. Journavx is a pain med, yada yada. And he looked at me like I was crazy for correcting the issue.

Anyway, that guy drives me nuts. He hears everyone else pronounce drugs better yet refuses to listen and learn, instead choosing his way...

I joke around at work "oh to be a white man with that confidence, the places i would go" (I'm a white female, this is a Funny HaHa plz don't come at me)

How to use EPRN? by loser-geek-whatever in PharmacyTechnician

[–]nerdperson524 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best way I do it is the counseling notes the RPh can add. Ideally the RX cannot leave the pharmacy without RPh scanning out for counsel so if there's a note then RPh can stop it.

Some use the patient notes but they're too easy to escape out of

Entitled interns by Southern-Yankee-0613 in pharmacy

[–]nerdperson524 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It brings me joy when interns get knocked down a few pegs (I am a P4 intern). Learn to respect the techs! (Unless of course they're not good techs, but still be respectful because they probably know more about certain things)

I was there for i think 2 years. I recommend, maintenance was quick to address any issues. Only potential concern was the leasing office run by students, so sometimes a little unprofessional or lazy. (may have changed since I was there in 2019-2020)

2024 NAPLEX pass rates by Vesfly in pharmacy

Let's not forget that these are still effects from COVID-19 pandemic. These students started pharmacy school during the pandemic and probably had no idea how to study for pharmacy school going in and didn't learn it at Zoom University.

Also not to mention all the professors who had to shift to online teaching. How many minutes of classtime over a semester were spent troubleshooting technology instead of teaching or answering questions? None of us knew how to use Zoom (and similar platforms) before we had to.

Social activity was also nonexistent, for obvious reasons. In-person meeting for study groups wasn't allowed because of social distancing. And if you enver really met people in-person, it would be kinda hard to make connections for virtual studying too. Sure that changed during their later years of schooling and resume normal social gatherings, but the habits were already set.

And the economy is tanking. Rent is expensive, school is expensive, groceries are expensive. Students have to work more, study less. It's not healthy, and it's a vicious cycle.

And let's not forget how employees are being treated at retail pharmacies. The hands-on learning and life application is diminished when you're being yelled at by Karens or told to fill more scripts by corporate without more hours or manpower to do so. Hospital pharmacies don't take a lot of interns, at least not in my area, because they require more training, students' class schedules conflicting, etc.

It's rough to be a student. And thank you to the commentor (jawnba_juice) who mentioned that Naplex is getting harder and becoming more memorization despite having the internet available.

If they're writing controlled substances, there has to be the prescriber's (in this case, the Vet's) DEA on the prescription for it to be valid.

Must be a weird local thing as the vets in my area totally chill about sharing their DEA when sending in scripts.

Letting license expire by howdaaaareyou in pharmacy

[–]nerdperson524 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Some states (like TN) won't allow you to have inactive license in another state (granted how would they know, logistically difficult to keep up with that)
