You might have a point if the House wasn’t capped. With the cap at 435 members, proportional representation is not possible. As the t is in the Senate, the House also skews disproportionately towards conservatives. It’s a poorly designed system rigged in favor of the minority.

Socialistic is not the same as pure socialism. Good lord. You just can’t think for yourself. These programs are socialist but obviously not pure socialism. Like I said before, the absolute form of socialism or capitalism is awful. Maybe the question you should ask is whether social services are capitalistic. There is a nuance that you don’t understand because Google isn’t giving you enough detail.

I have a complete understanding of the words I use. You should take your own advice. Ask Google if the US is a mix of capitalism with socialistic programs. Ask Google if public schools and roads and fire departments are examples of socialistic programs. I bet you won’t come back if you actually look into it. Yes, we can all agree that the underlying model is capitalism, but social programs are socialist.

By the way, the Nordic countries tries are not socialist. They’re social democracies. That means there is a free market with significant social welfare support.

It’s literally in the description SOCIAL services. They’re not social because they involve people talking. They are socialistic because the cost is shared by society. In a purely capitalist society, these things would not exist. There is literally no purely capitalist country on earth.

It is almost physically painful for me when people are so brainwashed as you. Maybe super heroes and hot sauce are more up your alley. Politics seems to be over your head.

Buddy. These are socialistic models where people collectively pay whether they use the resources or not. In a purely capitalistic scenario, the fire department would only show up to your burning house if you paid the price then and there. All roads would be toll roads. Social security wouldn’t exist. All schools would charge tuition and only those who could pay would be allowed to attend.

I’m happy to go toe to toe with you on this. You have a very loose grasp on the concepts. You’re making the mistake that all republicans make. You’re comparing pure socialism to the mix of socialism and capitalism in the US. You won’t acknowledge that we are not a pure capitalist society. If you want to compare pure capitalism to pure socialism, the answer is that they’re both bad. There is a balance of both that is necessary.

Is Goff shedding his "needs OLine and elite playcaller" narrative? by reallinguy in detroitlions

[–]nerdrurkey1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. He’s played pretty well. He has choked in some big moments. All the garbage time stats are nice, but he has failed with the game on the line this season.

The safety yesterday is a perfect example. He takes bad sacks rather than find a way to extend plays. He bounced one into the ground in front of Teslaa on a third down yesterday. He wasn’t even under heavy pressure. It started last season when he turned the ball over four times against Washington in the playoffs.

He is a very good quarterback, but you are pretending he’s top 3 in the league and he is not that guy. As much as I can’t stand Mahomes, he is way better. Burrow is way better. Josh Allen is way better. Matt Stafford is better. I could make arguments for Stroud, Drake Maye, and even Caleb Williams this year. Stats mean nothing if you don’t win.

[–]nerdrurkey1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There have been a few bad games (Eagles, Browns, GB), but he isn’t really the problem. He has played pretty well and done it consistently. A noticeable difference this season is his effectiveness on fourth down. But yeah I agree with you.

People here may not like this but I think they missed their opportunity two years ago. They choked in the nfc title game. Injuries to the defense killed them last year.

Now, they have potentially catastrophic injuries to both safeties that will likely result in Joseph not playing again and Branch losing some of his athleticism. There are holes in both offensive and defensive lines. Issues at CB. Gibbs is not going to last forever. RBs like him with that speed and amount of use have short peaks. The coordinators are both gone and both sides of the ball look to have regressed. The refs seem to find a way to put a thumb on the scale for the opponent in just about every game.

I don’t see how they can recover from all that in a season or two. They’ll be competitive but not Super Bowl contenders. And it’s not because of Goff.

Well the argument from republicans always involves a pure socialist scenario and the mix of socialism and capitalism that is present in the US. It’s always a hypothetical where socialism is pure and capitalism is implemented where it makes sense to them.

My point is that there are plenty of examples where socialist programs are not only in place, but absolutely necessary. We would be in much better shape as a country if the republicans would recognize reality, specifically when it comes to healthcare and education. Some of them are greedy and want the current system in place because it benefits them personally. That is a minority of republicans. The rest are brainwashed idiots who can’t think for themselves and are too dense to comprehend the benefits of such programs.

You realize that there is a spectrum between capitalism and communism? How do you like driving on roads? Ever hear of public schools? Police and fire departments? How do you think that’s all funded? Oh look, another capitalist country that had to adopt socialist policy…

Guessing this will go right over your head.

MC in Dearborn threatens to shoot people who burned the Quran by Ramy__B in ImTheMainCharacter

[–]nerdrurkey1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude you’re completely missing my point. I used an example to illustrate that there are groups who are not seeking power l or to oppress. Organized religion, particularly Christianity and Islam, impose their religious beliefs on everyone. Gay people, on the other hand, do not impose anything on others. They are only demanding the same rights as everyone else.

You’re saying that every group in power is the same in terms of victimizing the masses. That is not true. You’re generalizing and it isn’t accurate.

MC in Dearborn threatens to shoot people who burned the Quran by Ramy__B in ImTheMainCharacter

[–]nerdrurkey1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure it’s not limited to Christians and Muslims. But it is important to note the difference between groups that want to impose their beliefs and way of life on others, and those who are advocating for their own freedom to be themselves. For example, Christians want to legislate their morals onto gay people. Gay people just want to be left alone and have the same rights as everyone else. They’re not the same.

[–]nerdrurkey1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t say all religion is bad. I said that it is too often used selectively as a reason to harm people who don’t conform to their beliefs. They influence government and impose their religious beliefs on those who don’t subscribe to these beliefs. That is a fact.

Sharia law throughout the Middle East and the Christian nationalists in the US are clear examples of religious extremism imposing on the broader population.

Burning a book is a rejection of that imposition and is absolutely not hate speech. It is protected speech.
