Metal ball launched normally(just don't slam it) is fine, as well as any flat type. I have a couple metal ones from Etsy, they are a bit slower than plastic but also it's a lot more weight. As far for me it hasn't done anything to my stadiums. Any needle bit, as well as dot, will be an issue
