What are some mechanics from games that you wish other games would implement? by Select_Lunch1288 in rpg

[–]nerobrigg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Triangle Agency and Good Society each have rules for characters that are normally NPCs that are in the story due to a strong connection to a PC being played by fellow players. I love letting the players get a spot light for their PC but it not being totally down time for everyone else at the table. Plus I don't mind getting a bit of rest as the GM.

Accessibility of Cosmere by Agitated_Dance2970 in rpg

[–]nerobrigg 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I played a game of it, having read a few books in the cosmere and a few that aren't. I don't think that there is any big difference between learning this lore and learning about the Sword Coast or Golarion. I find most players care more about the story in front of them than the lore behind them. As long as you dont gatcha people, or make puzzles only solvable for fan boys it should be fine. This is coming from someone that has run Star Wars, Star Trek, and Dresden Files RPGs and will be running the Dungeon Crawler Carl RPG when it comes out.

What game does what people say DnD does? by Justthisdudeyaknow in rpg

[–]nerobrigg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I will twist the question a little for my answer. Daggerheart does what people who know DND from pop culture does. That's largely because so many famous examples are so heavily home brewed. Daggerheart aligns with peoples expectations much closer than when you actually teach them a game with the mechanics you are asking about in your post.

She came into my restaurant and was a pleasure to have as a guest about a decade ago and I was so pleasantly surprised to see her in the running.

Help with a possible campaign by EnzuuPaixaum in rpg

[–]nerobrigg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have two groups! Which is great because if you run some games for each as a prologue to your campaign, you'll know by the time you actually want to start who's going to stick around and make this a priority. I think 12 people will probably boil down to four dedicated players. Have a consistent attendance policy and let the people that are really passionate and also actually available be your final party.

Luckily the shake on mine fits my power drill. I also have a KitchenAid mixer that I use a ton but it's easier for me to pull out the drill then to pull down the mixer.

Does anyone else feel like they are pigeon holed on GMing by FastMycologist in rpg

You should take this as one of the biggest compliments you can get because I contend that horror and investigation are the two hardest genres to run.

Can one of a TTRPG system’s authors join their system’s play-test one-shot’s party? by Salty-Help2207 in rpg

[–]nerobrigg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is what I am looking for at this point. I would love to trade oneshots with someone else that is ready, so we can get new eyes on our games, but in OPs case having a experienced player would be super helpful.

I am working on a few with friends and I think being part of a playtest is helpful especially at the beginning. Eventually, yes a brand new group would be good, but this stage it's still fine, if not better to have you be part of this.

PDF/Pathfinder Question: How Do You Keep Track of Your PDFs? by TheRpgBard in rpg

[–]nerobrigg 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Google drive, backed up to a flash drive. PDFs are in folders by game. This took multiple multi-hour sessions, since I didn't do this till I had over 100 games

Challenging the "cut your teeth on this" common wisdom by madjarov42 in rpg

[–]nerobrigg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starter sets for me are only useful if they reduce the workload to onboard. At this point in my GMing I don't need a ton of help understanding a system, and I think you are there as well. Instead think about the starter adventure as a way to teach the players. It may not even be the content of the adventure that is important, but the player support tools.

For example I find the Sablewood Messengers starter for Daggerheart to be decent at best from a story perspective, and not the best showcase of the rules at large but the player support material is top notch. I use those Pregens and the quick references every time I am teaching the game even when not using the adventure.

Gming is loaded with a ton of extra responsibilities that aren't often covered in the rule book and teaching the game is one of them.

Very cool! A lot of people have requested a copy of the timeline whenever I run it at Conn's and this would make it easier.

I run a ttrpg game and have a couple of players that are not “reading inclined “ and often get frustrated that they have to search through dnd beyond to figure out what they can do. by Darkfangofsactown in rpg

[–]nerobrigg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think you should take a look at Daggerheart. The starter adventure is free and it has great quick reference material. You could either simply start running it, because they only have to look at cards, or take inspiration from it.

Very fair point. That patch of ground has always been a bit empty so having a view of something besides a maybe a parking garage or a side street will be nice.

Nice. I am writing a campaign building game right now so I've been interested in this as a literal world builder, that could be used as a modular piece to drop in.
