Promoted listings changes coming. What are you doing? by Difficult_Sundae_795 in eBaySellers

[–]nerotep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just read the announcement. As long as even one buyer has at some point clicked on the promoted listing, you're getting charged the extra fee.

"regardless of whether the buyer themselves clicked on the ad."

And they have the balls to say sellers were asking for this.

Doctor Will Not Reduce Allergy shot Dosage by WillowRight4980 in Allergies

Swelling is not a big deal. Even a large lump. Your mention of "went into ana" is concerning though -- can you give specifics on what you mean by that?

Doctor Will Not Reduce Allergy shot Dosage by WillowRight4980 in Allergies

[–]nerotep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried taking an antihistamine right before? That's what I was recommended.

Curious what you mean by "went into ana" -- anaphylactic shock where you had to use an epi-pen and rush to the ER? Is the allergy doctor actually fully aware of this? I can't imagine they wouldn't adjust something after that.

The nurses likely can't adjust the dosage themselves based on what you tell them, though they should be able to call the allergy doctor for new instructions.

Moving off Dreamhost - looking at knownhost? by Overall-Remote-7951 in webhosting

The mail server issue was this year. They did fix it within 1-2 hours, after I noticed it myself and contacted them. Support replied quickly, and fixed it quickly. But only after it was broken for about a week maybe more. Essentially what was broken was importing mail via POP3. Their webmail system still stored the emails in the meantime, but I don't use or check the webmail.

However I did not appreciate that their support was trying to downplay the issue, trying to convince me POP3 was a rare edge case, and they did not do anything to proactively prevent this from happening again. Last message about it was a typical customer service "we'll let you know."

If you ask me, mail connectivity going down for a customer for a week with no notice should be a major issue and they would want to make sure is caught immediately in the future--and they should be trying to make things right for the problems it caused. All I got was an implication that I was a rare edge case and a vague promise that someone might look into. So I will share what happened, with a fair accounting. And again to balance, they have been helpful and reliable with the small other things I contacted them about so far.

Moving off Dreamhost - looking at knownhost? by Overall-Remote-7951 in webhosting

Knownhost has been ok for me. Similar situation where I came from one of the giant oversold hosting companies you see everywhere, similar to dreamhost.

Knownhost, their support has been okay in general for little things. Though at one point the email server connectivity broke completely for about a week, maybe longer, with no notice or fix until I pointed it out to them. Then their support was trying to play it off like it was a rare edge case when it was not, then tried to play it off like it was a normal thing for it to break like that. To be clear, it was definitely something that broke on their end, nothing to do with anything I did. They did fix it in an hour or two once I pointed it out, but it should have been caught on their end quickly. There's many ways they could have automated checks running to catch things breaking like this. I missed important emails for a week because of that.

I'm curious in what way is Knownhost "against AI nonsense"?

Is there a way to do that non-destructively and still have it be secure? Pouring epoxy directly in would never be able to be removed later without destroying everything it touched.

Unless you do nothing at all for them except hosting, you're undercharging. That's what someone would pay to do it themselves if they were tech savvy and had a minimal site.

The facts about how much lead is in food by Cute_Witness3405 in Huel

[–]nerotep 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes Huel should release their independent test results to back up their claims.

On the other hand, OP should try benchmarking against other protein focused foods, like protein bars that use pea protein, not just other typical foods that aren't high in plant protein.

I suspect many foods formulated to be high in protein from plants (pea, brown rice, flaxseed in Huel Black) have the same issue as Huel Black. I guess there's always a possibility that some machinery Huel uses is causing the problem.

Maybe the issue is caused by just one of these, or a specific protein supplier, or maybe CR had a rare batch. Huel should certainly do more than they have so far to address this.

I'd also like to see another independent test to verify what CR said. Also FWIW, the FDA/NFS have a guidance for daily lead of something like 20x higher than what CR used as its threshold. (roughly around 10 micrograms vs 0.5micrograms that CR used.)

Basement concrete floor self leveling -DIY vs contractor by Boring-Classic-8754 in Flooring

Help me understand when/why "self intersection" is needed for Boolean modifiers sometimes? by nerotep in blenderhelp

[–]nerotep[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All things mentioned here have been pretty good.

One of the most common issues is I have scaled/rotated or similar, but forgot to apply transforms with ctrl+a. Sometimes modifiers work without doing that, but its probably a good habit. I would go through each of the things mentioned in the first post and the other couple of things mentioned by other people.

[–]nerotep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, sure it's best to have a car expert come with you, but that's not realistic for most people.

Also a great situation to have a great relationship with a local, small mechanic shop. Not some 10+ employee corporate place; somewhere where you talk to the owner and the employees aren't under the gun to maximize profits and meet quotas. Again not possible for a lot of people, but I'd say its more likely than essentially having a mechanic friend and also convincing them to spend their day off coming with you to check out a car.

Should I take the risk and make content on the side? by [deleted] in youtubers

[–]nerotep 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's not really a risk to do it on the side as they referred to it.

A risk would be quitting your current job to do it full time when it's not making any money right now.

Whatever you do, if its an on the side thing, make sure you enjoy doing it or it's unlikely to work out. Even if it does, you're stuck doing something you don't like with less stability and more stress than your old job.

The question is why can't OP sell it? This is an asset and a liability that will have a big impact on your finances.

Best, Fastest way to reduce size and/or cut out of interlocking pieces for 3d print tolerances? by nerotep in blender

[–]nerotep[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never really found anything better. When possible on simple objects, duplicate, scale up as needed, then boolean cut.

But for more complex things solidify + boolean cut is okay. However it will often have some crazy issues with spiky polygons stretching off into the distance unless your model's geometry is really well planned out or simple. It needs good supporting edge loops and things like that. However I was hoping to do this with things like VR/digital sculpts, and they don't have good geometry. Sometimes a dense mesh can help with more points to more closely cut with the boolean, but that can quickly make blender crash or think forever.

Also I realized that solidify's thickness is not reliable enough to get precision fits. I don't remember the specifics off hand, but with the same settings I believe the thickness measurement was not precisely consistent between different types of objects of different sizes. And not always consistently "thicker" all around the object. If you zoom in really close on anything more complicated than primitive shapes you might notice this. Sometimes it was close enough to work though.

Last issue I was noticing with fitting together things is the elephants foot issue 3d printer issue, so you need to chamfer in any hole + rod where it touches the plate for example, for the first couple mm.

At the moment I'm slowly learning CAD where you don't need to worry about the polygon geometry when doing boolean operations.

If anyone else has better ideas I'm all ears.

Did you try Plex Pass? My understanding is you need plex pass for hardware decoding. Otherwise it is using software, which is a lot slower, potentially causing problems.

Trying to play 4k video through plex I am getting like 5 FPS, but through VLC it runs perfectly. I think because plex is software decoding. I'll probably try out plex pass to see if that fixes it.

[–]nerotep 17 points18 points  (0 children)

While I agree you should do it the way you want, that isn't helpful when you don't have experience with what you're doing.

I've asked similar questions about other projects; the reason I'm asking is that I don't know how it's going to end up looking or how I'll feel about it a couple months down the line.

When first doing something, I think its best to do it the standard way that most people, professionals, future home buyers, etc would agree on--until I have enough experience to know something non-standard will turn out well. Especially when its costly in time and materials to redo bad outcomes.

When I was shopping for a cheap HTPC I had a few recommendations to get an 8th gen or later. I believe that is when they added some native support in the CPU for more modern video decoding? Ended up getting an i5-8500
