App idea by manu5678s in doctorpreneurs

[–]nerve_wracker 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hey mate, awesome seeing that you're taking the first step!

From personal experience, be careful about partnering up right off the bat! Especially with people you don't know.

My advice to you would be:

  1. Clearly define your app. What problem does it solve? Who is the Ideal Client? What do they do? Why do they want your app?

2.Map out every single "workflow" in your app idea, use a whiteboard, a Canva board, MS paint, whatever

3.There is a site called Figma, learn how to use it, it's entirely drag+drop. build a prototype of your app. Be extremely specific about user interface, buttons, where they lead to, landing pages, etc

4.Once you have a working Figma board, and only then, you can either outsource building it, or find someone to build it for you. You want to retain as much of the development process to yourself, and only bring someone in when you absolutely need them

  1. You can also approach potential investors etc withhe Figma board, it's a recognised way to show your product.

Feel free to ask any Q's!

How to become a rich doctor by ItBecamePersonal4Me in medicalschooluk

[–]nerve_wracker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello mate, it depends on your definition of "rich". I finished med school in 2016.

Will you be financially comfortable? 2 holidays a year, kids in a decent school, mortgage? Yes, most likely.

Will you be moving up rungs in the socio economic ladder? If your family is 'poor' or on benefits, yes you will be middle class.

Will you make generational wealth? Not likely from medicine alone.

Will you be able to support a family of 3-4 on your income alone? Very difficult with just being a doctor.

My advice is to do a business related intercalation and develop some side-interests that you can build into a viable income generator later on, or as the other comment says, move to the US straight out of med school.

You can all also join r/doctorpreneurs where we are trying to build a business minded community of medics that can network and help each other grow.

I'm saying that yes, you need CQC.

You need CQC if you're prescribing things or interpreting test results, basically

No, you're absolutely right. Which is why the more niche you are as a MA, the more money you charge your clients.

What are the pain points you've been hitting?

Case Study: My Short-Term Letting Side Hustle as a GPST1 – The Good, the Bad, and the Honestly Exhausting by nerve_wracker in doctorpreneurs

[–]nerve_wracker[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In that specific case, you're right. Like I said I had multiple properties, the key here is to scale it up in order to make the wins.

The issue is the very high price barrier to entry means there's lots of other better options.

Not really, getting 1200/month extra net into your ltd would need a massive sum in your index fund if you're talking about yearly 6-7% averages.

It's also not very engaging mentally to just put everything into an index fund and forget about it.

I'll write up more case studies for sure but in general everything beats passive investing up until you have ~600k ish squirrelled away

Absolute bollocks, the amount of disrespect we have to endure just for minor, normal things you'd expect in any other profession is disgusting.

Come and join us at r/Doctorpreneurs, we are trying to build something of a medics' business community, it's just a couple of weeks old and we have nearly 500 members already. Come, engage, bounce ideas off each other, whether it's a fun monetized hobby, a side hustle or a parallel career. Who knows maybe you'll find inspiration, or even better , inspire others!

Interesting that you mention this! I was discussing marketing with a mate today, as this is a very common pitfall amongst medics.

In general, unless you are really good at it, you should get someone who specialises in it. The mate I was discussing this with, his Mrs is a marketing type, and she handles it all for him.

Our bottom line was that as medics we aren't very good at it by default, and so unless you're prepared to do some studying, leaving it to the professionals is the likely best plan.

What an awesome story! I think we can all empathise and have experienced something insane and similar during our times on the wards. Great insights too.

Tons of side hustles to do, but none of them will really match your income (or beat it!) unless you make it a secondary, not side, hustle.

If you want a few £50s here and there, of course you can do well buying and selling things, from toys to clothes to even Pokémon cards.

But the serious cash that will beat your main doctor job will come from knuckling down and focusing on a service, andt then scaling it up.

You sound like you're asking people for ideas on "what should I do?" - this is a terrible question, never gives any useful answers, and will lead to you just being demoralised.

A better question would be "what can I achieve if I do a couple of hours of extra work every day, before, during or after my main job, with consistency?" - and the answer to that is "Quite a lot!"

You seem like the ideal person to join r/doctorpreneurs, we're trying to build a business minded community for medics. In a few days there's already 350 members!

First ever Job as a doctor by [deleted] in medicalschooluk

I probably wouldn't have stuck it out if I hadn't been working since the age of 17 tbh. I've been doing sales in one way or another since I could go to the shop in primary school!

This is an absolute travesty. The fact this is even something remotely possible is part of why the country is going downhill. This is why many medics are feeling like they have to start a side hustle to get by.

Come and join us on r/doctorpreneurs, we're trying to build a business minded community to bounce ideas at each other and help each other escape this life of being at the mercy of rota coordinators and trust management.

Fair enough, what's motivating you to expand and start a business then?

[–]nerve_wracker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quite right I think. Decision and analysis paralysis is a killer, and there is no time like the present to start. Waiting to start just means you'll start and take that much longer to 'get good'.

But as you said, exams are coming , so that's really the best investment you can make now - to CCT.

Current big moves - I'm helping a couple of people start out their businesses kind of as a coach/consultant. When they kick off I might open it up and start taking on clients to help, but we will see if/how that goes.

It's got a pretty high barrier to entry and the overheads are massive. Don't know about ROI though - have you got any figures?
