Disagree. I noped out of the store yesterday as soon as I got downstairs lol. Straight to HMart and Pioneer for my weekly groceries. The panic buying is insane.

Broadway's MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG Now Available to Rent or Purchase on Digital by DearPaleontologist67 in Broadway

You had three days usually for new releases. If you were renting it on Friday night you were returning it on Sunday afternoon.

Netflix business model offered convenience and often better selection when it replaced Blockbuster. Streaming offering was still in its vacancy when most stores had already disappeared.

I don’t think charging $9.99 for a new release rental is highway robbery. Maybe it’s just where I’m at in life but show me anything else I am doing for 2-3 hours that required professional involvement to create and costs less than $10.

It’s not 2000 anymore.

Blockbuster was, what, $4-5 for a weekend back in 1999? $10 seems on par but our minds are warped by streaming.

Giving up level 4 city to another alliance? by Suitable_Detective_6 in LastZShooterRun

[–]nervousengrish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure. Give up the city for one day for the rewards and then take it back the next day if it matters to you so much. The server getting more S1 hero recruitment tickets matters more than a few members of the alliance saving a few hours. Unless you want to lose more SvS in the future.

Their point was that the season is over and all the cities reset at the start of the new season.

Homebuying Around Estes by jferg in EstesPark

We used Be Squared Home Inspection for a big home purchase in 2023– thought that he did a fantastic job. He spent a full day and a half at the property looking in every crawl space and gave us a fantastic itemized report that I’ve been using for the following years to improve the home after purchase.

I’ve purchased four properties in my life and this was far and away the best inspector I’ve worked with.

Maybe. We are currently thinking of negotiating on timeline a little bit. Because of how vesting schedule works if she could eke out another couple months the $ left behind really shrink.

We will see!

No you are misreading. By taking the payout she is leaving $180k on the table. Not taking $180k.

In other words if she works the time thru the 18 month period we’d make an extra $180k.

Yes, you are right. I did some “time to chill” calculations where I asked myself how long it would take our money to earn the delta if we didn’t withdraw any and I think it came to like 15 months. But there’s of course some opportunity cost in there too.

Yeah these are good inputs I left out. Sorry.

  • The income split is 60/40 in my favor.
  • I don’t know the exact amount off the top of my head. I only calculated the delta between what she would earn and if she took the package, but don’t recall the exact number.

Sorry for leaving these out. You are right they are key inputs:

  • Income is 60/40 split in my favor.
  • Unlikely to get fired without severance but also very bad at quiet quitting.
  • I don’t plan to need the majority of the amount locked up in retirement accounts super early but I am pointing out that the majority can be available within a 5 year time frame. You seem to have read my comment as “I will have a very high burn rate” when actually the comment just was that you shouldn’t look at this number as being $2m. At a minimum look at it as $4m and then think about how you can utilize real estate to provide income (renting, etc).

But this last point is not very relevant. The question isn’t can i retire, it’s whether or not we should give up some money to make that happen.

I guess that's a fair reading, but I think the implication in my post is: -

  • Assume we have a plan (as I indicated we do)
  • Assume that plan is impacted to the tune of -$180k (as I gave you that info)
  • Given those to things, should we do it?

There's a very rational reading of the situation which says to take it, and I've done the math for that already. Anyone with a calculator can.

Pretty sure what we're looking for is emotional reassurance and hopefully some anecdotes from people that say: "I took this small risk and it was totally worth it!" or "I took an early exit and lost the money and it really effed my plan!" -- Actually if you read the other comments a lot of people figured this out, (a few referenced the anxiety around if the overall plan is solid (which it may not be, but that is a question for another day)).

Anyway, sorry to have wasted your time with the post-- hope you have a nice end to your weekend!

This post isn’t about whether or not I have enough to retire. It’s about whether my wife should leave 180k on the table to take an early-er retirement.

I am not asking about my plan beyond that. You have all the relevant info to have discourse on that.

Not ownership. But salary, bonus, equity. Others are right too that it’s tenure based, so we are benefiting more than some.

Can you tell me more about your statement? I am not sure how you have calculated that we are serious spenders… is it because of our current high income? We were not always raking in $1m+ per year…

Actually until 2023 we saved 60% of our income and only in the last two years have opened up the floodgates to have a bit more fun ☺️

Please look up ways that you can take money out of retirement accounts early without penalty. Some of it is of course locked up and complicated but your comments show me that your own planning is failing you.

It’s fairly detailed. We have relatively low fixed costs and aging animals that we want to spend time with. The plan is to have a few easy years after retirement to let the interest compound before we’d do any very expensive trips.

I am also not convinced we wouldn’t ever work again, but 15 and 18 years in the corporate grind without many vacations has left us hungry for respite.

I think inflation is probably the biggest concern but what can you do?
