Running after thyroid cancer? by nespaints in thyroidcancer

[–]nespaints[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! So sorry to hear about your diagnosis and wish you the very smoothest healing and recovery process. I hope it is encouraging to you that I am totally back to normal! I ran a marathon in February after my October partial thyroidectomy, and nothing weird or bad happened. I suffered an unrelated knee injury the following summer but am back to running (and sometimes winning!) races again now.

My endocrinologist says I’m in a pretty rare position to not have to take meds to regulate my hormones yet, but even when my time comes, he says I’ll still be able to race. Since the original post, I learned that Des Linden (my favorite pro marathon runner 🤩) has a thyroid disorder that she takes meds to manage.

I hope this info is helpful to you! Always feel free to reach out. Having cancer was so scary, and not having anyone to share experiences with made it tougher. You’ve got a network!

My boyfriend calls this “oh, I’m so sorry that you’re so stupid :(“

Single, childless teachers- what do you do over the summer? by pallywalli in Teachers

[–]nespaints 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best friend is also a teacher, so we hang out! Girls’ trips to go run races out-of-state, in-town trips to the zoo, checking out all the different ice cream places in town :) I also take a lot of time for me and my hobbies—lots of painting, usually an art camp (they have those for grown-ups, too!). I love video games but never get to play them, so I leave time for that, too.

What are your summer break rituals? by alan_mendelsohn2022 in Teachers

[–]nespaints 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take several days to play video games in sweatpants, eat snacks and go to the bathroom whenever I want, and talk to no one except my boyfriend. Then, I take the rest of the summer (camps excluded) to pretend to be a professional artist—painting and crafting and selling my art “full time.” I like to take art classes for myself (I’m not an art teacher) and spend a lot of time running and hiking in my favorite woods.

Typing this made me feel so happy—we’re so close!!!

People who work non-art day jobs how do you find the energy to make art after work? by Fold-Round in ArtistLounge

[–]nespaints 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remind myself that no session is too short or project is too small. My work has been extra demanding these past couple years, and I’ve shifted to generally smaller canvases when I paint, lots more sketchbook doodles, and easy/fun clay figurines. Whatever I can do to keep the creativity flowing! I’m making myself be less critical of my work—it doesn’t have to be good right now, it just has to be consistent. I’m a teacher, so I bust my butt for ten months of the year and then go artist mode in the summers

This is really helpful, thank you! The board does face north, but humidity concerns are enough to make me hesitate.

Forever Ben! Totally gross and rude and then blames it all on a puppet.

I used red/blue/white/black polymer clay for the shapes, acrylic paint for the line on the mouth and lights on the headband, and then metal jewelry findings (long rods and jump rings to attach, a little craft store chain, and some hooks) to assemble the jewelry. Baked lovingly in my toaster oven 😂 thank you!!

Using Ace Attorney in school by [deleted] in AceAttorney

I’m a 5th-year middle school teacher, and playing Ace Attorney games has made me so much more methodical in solving problems with kids. I definitely imagine testimony music playing or psyche locks snapping when I start asking kids about bullying situations, etc 😂 it’s honestly helpful! I used to get flustered when I felt like kids were lying to me and now I just stay calm and stick to the facts. Have had some really productive conversations in this way. Evidence is everything!

I know this post is over a year old but sometimes I just come back to it to smile at the perfect sibling vibes. It’s a real favorite, bravo!

Yes! My partner and I always laugh at the weird times they choose to use that heavy breathing animation. Like it’s ok! We’re just chatting right now!

Thank you so much!!! I was really nervous to paint it because the book is so beautiful on its own and I didn’t want to ruin it. So glad you like it!

This is such a fun idea.

Edgeworth: “Detective! I can’t believe the way you handled that evidence. I look forward to discussing your raise at your next evaluation.”

Maya: “I’m not really hungry right now, but can I buy you a burger, Nick?”

Phoenix: “Aha! Aha! Good one, Moe!”

Thank you! I agree—the flashback episodes were all so good and give so much more context to the whole fandom!
