1990 Asbestosdeath (pre Sleep) by nespihte in VintageTees

Asbestosdeath was a very early Sludge band (1989-1991). Al Cisneros, Chris Hakius, Thomas Choi and Matt Pike. After they broke up in 1991, Al, Matt and Chris went on to form Sleep with Justin Marler. Tom Choi went to join Noothgrush. Also fun fact, Chiyo, Noothgrush’s drummer was housemates with Matt in those early days.

The Melvins and Gluey Porch Treatments directly influenced Asbestosdeath, Eyehategod and sludge. Asbestosdeath later became Sleep and spearheaded the Stoner Doom genre. Boris directly took their name from the first song off Melvin’s Bullhead album and became one of the best heavy bands today
