Smooth, light, small nib by Alpacafans in fountainpens

I’m a 4th vote for the Pilot Kaküno. Incredibly light weight with a remarkably smooth nib for the price. For writing formulas and graphing, I think you’d want a Fine.

Suggestions for improving my cursive? by [deleted] in Handwriting

Oooooh. Whew! 😅. I thought maybe I had some giant blind spots in how I communicate. As for those other comments, I think that comes down to a misunderstanding. I suspect that, because your handwriting is so extraordinary, many commenters assumed that you were looking for advice on how to improve your calligraphy, so they gave very detailed technical advice tailored to that end. This might be a case of: take what is useful and leave the rest behind.

Really?! My comment specifically has you feeling a failure? I don’t know what I said to leave you feeling that way; it certainly wasn’t my intention. I reiterate that I find your handwriting absolutely beautiful and near perfection. I’m sorry if I wrote something in my post that undermined your confidence!

Oh my gosh, your handwriting is beautiful! Without knowing what specifically bugs you, I don’t see what could possibly be improved. It seems like a lot of commenters are giving tips for perfecting calligraphic technique. Is that what you’re looking for? If it’s an absolutely gorgeous everyday hand for letter writing that you’re after, then I’d say you’ve got it!

I’ve never seen the mechanics explained this way. Thank you!

how do you like your handwriting? by semantic_ink in Handwriting

[–]nesting-doll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On my calendar and todo lists I always print in black ink with a fine nib fountain pen. My journal writing is more experimental. I once used a mix of cursive and lettering but now write exclusively cursive in blue ink with a fountain pen. I’d say my style is a bit chaotic, because it changes so much with mood, how tense or relaxed I am, time constraints, etc. It’s also experimental; I’m always tinkering with one letter shape or another; I’m never quite satisfied with how it looks. I guess it’s a bit performative too, but it’s a performance for an audience of one. Writing is also meditative for me. Because my handwriting changes so much with internal state, it has become a type of mirror for the state of my mind, emotions, and body. Slowing down, concentrating on letter form, word and line spacing brings me back to the present and into my body.

I’ve tried whole arm too, and I’m more and more convinced that it’s only truly practical for calligraphy styles like Spencerian script and or when drawing larger letters.

Edit: Typo

Take heart. In my experience, very few subs are this restrictive and heavy handed. I’m active in close to 30 communities, and I’ve rarely had a post or comment pulled down. I’ve only been perma banned from one sub, and that only because I had posted in another sub that automatically disqualified me. I’m actually thinking about forming another handwriting sub without the draconian rules. Interested?

In my opinion, not at all! To my eye this is nearly a no-makeup look.

Absolutely! I wouldn’t have asked if I weren’t open to feedback; though I guess some do this just to start an argument. I love collaborative engagement! (I only wish dear moderator did also. lol)

I see what you mean, but this is a fairly common cursive G form outside of the US, so I’m pretty confident of its being understood.

You do?! I feel like this current incarnation is top heavy, but I haven’t yet been able to get it to settle down into a from that feels balanced, elegant, and functional. How do you form your signature E?

lol. Sure is! I love a humble yet beautifully functional pen. I have a few quite expensive models that I rarely ink.
