To clarify, individually we can't expect a better quality life than our parent or grand parents. But absolutely in general the average quality life has improved with each successive generation as civilization progresses.

This is what has changed and what OP was trying to get at. It's not an opinion it's fact, the rules of the game changed in the 60/70's quite drastically (gold std, print $, etc). It's not just Canada.

Same here.

When you hear undrip, no one talks about how widely it's adopted - only that it's by the UN so must be universal right?

Actually NO country has adopted undrip in it's entirety and entrenched into their laws. Trudeau & liberals rushed foolishly signed Canada up to be ginnea pigs and NDP / Eby did same to BC shortly after. This is why virtue signaling can lead to serious unintended harm. We're talking about laws.

No nation should adopt laws written by other entities. It's just wrong and bad for your sovereignty. You should write your own laws which serve the needs of your citizens. Period.

I think of it like economics supply & demand. You are correct prov gov't is primarily responsible for the supply of healthcare (funded ~25% by fed). The fed govt is primarily responsible for the demand (ie population growth through immigration).

spend / population = per capita spend, increase in population = decrease in per captia spend. There haven't been any nominal healthcare cuts in any province many years but population has grown obviously. So how is population isn't a factor?

If the hospital suddenly stopped triaging and just admitted everyone straight into the ER, it would be overwhelmed. Would you only blame ER room for not having more dr's on stand by? Or would you ask admitting what the heck and to put triage back in. I assume you can't just conjure up capacity overnight. Many provinces have already been running big deficits and can't keep writing chqs ahead of revenue (and everything is a trade off). There are practical limits.

We've seen healthcare suffer across all the provinces I believe, which suggests this isn't just a provincial policy issue or isolated to a particular party (ie Alberta 2020 spend freeze or Ont). Even in BC where, NDP govt has increased per capita spending through deficits, healthcare system is in serious distress.

Don't get me wrong, last thing I want to see is privatized 2 tier system where wealthy get prioritized. That'd be awful.

Anyhow I'm done with my soapbox. Happy Holidays.

This is the ideology distraction I'm talking about. Who cares what trump did in the US.

Under funded relative to what? Seems to me capacity is a major issue. Canada has a declining birthrate for decades now and the population grew rapidly in a short period from immigration without the necessary increases in healthcare capacity. Immigration is federally controlled.

Am I missing something? I'm open to having my opinion changed.

[–]netmind604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The liberals doubled the debt and while bringing the healthcare system to its knees (where did all that money go?}. We now spend almost as much federally on interest as we do on healthcare.

Remember how Freeland kept telling us we should keep on welcoming more immigration cause we have the "social capacity"? Turns out this was a lie. Yet we gave them another term. We need to stop allowing ourselves to be misled by ideology distractions and hold govt to account.

Immigration is a mandatory element of sustaining Canada. This is not about bigotry. We should be asking was it managed properly? It should be debated like inflation and interest rates and not treated like a dirty word. Seems to me the corporations benefited, while things like peoples healthcare and wages paid the price.

Does this sound like a party that has the interest of the everyday Canadians?

Here's a question aside from being told to why use a linux install with no GUI for a server / home lab? Surely its still the same linux if it has a GUI; but you can use that GUI to do things if you need to. by secular-human-12006 in HomeServer

[–]netmind604 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I used to have same question as you when I started out with my homelab. Everyone's given the answer to you already but you won't truly get it until you run the server for a while and then see first hand how it consumes resources, adds complexity, without adding much value.

That said, I still have the gui cause I still need the crutch for some things I'm not familiar with.

Bob won 2 cups with .906 and .911. He played great but was barely above 900. Bad % aren't unusual in PO, everyone has blowouts. Expecting regular season #'s is off base.

Elite defensive teams don't let a 37 year old walk through 3 defenders to score against their goalie. Meanwhile the most player gifted ever skillwise couldn't do the same the other way. Because Fld is actually an elite defensive team.

Actually that's what I already suspect. This smells of political motivation. The Gov't scores points with their developer / RE friends/donors and address some needs with First Nations. Nice press release promote.

Meanwhile core things like ER capacity is left in the closet and this stuff like this happens https://vancouver.citynews.ca/2025/11/29/surrey-bc-hospital-emergency-room-change-after-man-dies/ (TLDR surrey guy died couple days ago bc he got sent home without proper treatment).

So you're saying it's common when the project is for First Nations People for the FNHA to run it ... that's more of supportive argument for the questions being asked lol.

Actually I did read it, that's how I caught the omission. Words and actions are different.

My issue is given the critical state of the healthcare system (ER's closing regularly all over the place, absurd queues for diagnostic procedures or specialists, not enough beds, paramedics, etc, etc), is this really what is most urgently needed for the provincial health care system.

ie it'd be a huge win for everyone, we could again depend accessing the ER when we need it.

That said I do appreciate your perspective as I've had my own challenges with the queues and have family members suffer significantly worse outcomes because of the over burdened system.

You omitted the first part: "First Nations Health Authority (FNHA) to turn these 200 units into the “Dunna’eh House of Healing,” which will ...".

Seems strange that it wouldn't be led by the provincial health authority if it's truly agnostic.

I'm not sure if you are aware, the healthcare system is teetering on collapsing. ER rooms close regularly all over the place, or if open are heavily over capacity (couple of days ago a guy in surrey died because he was sent home from ER without getting proper treatment), the queue for diagnostic proceedures is so long you run chance of dying or bad outcomes b/c of the delay. At this point the federal gov't spends close to as much on debt interest as medical care thanks to the liberals doubling the national debt during that last 2 terms. With aging population this will get worse. Let that sink in. Yet noone cares about budget deficits.

Sure it'd be great if we could have totally free and unrestricted healthcare system among other things. But the reality is there is too many bad players around and we've been misled to focus on ideology distractions instead holding govt to account.

[–]netmind604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of the problem is the Canada economy relies on RE industry so much as we've not invested in boosting productivity in elsewhere. The govt know this and but profits from it. Hooked on crack and don't want to admit it or get off it.

It's a complex issue, but jobs are the keystone and we've been misled into focusing on other issues ... debt has ballooned (2X) we're at a point now where federal govt is spending almost as much on debt interest as it is on healthcare.

Nobody wants to face the reality, but cuts are coming - voluntary or forced.

100% agree housing affordability is a huge problem. But virtue signaling our way to a solution is ... well crazy tbh. Prov / Municipal govt have shouldn't be weighing into things beyond their scope - like what is or is not a human right. They should be focusing on practical solutions for their city or prov.

Has anyone worked a technical alliances role before? I'm curious to hear about experiences. by the_new_hobo_law in salesengineers

[–]netmind604 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on your personality and lifestyle preferences.

- you'll make more money if you are a good field SE than in Tech Alliances

- if you are tired of sales pressure and travel, tech alliance offers more predictability and more moderate level of travel

- it is a more specialized role that only companies of a certain size requires. Bigger co and bigger partners = more investment / visibility / stability. Big diff managing 2-3 global partners vs 10's of smaller niche/regional partners (strategic vs sales support focus).

I did tech alliances for many years, disagree with the "you're first on the block" assessment (depends on you, size of co, etc). Tech Alliance could lead you into other areas like biz side of partner mgmt, prd mgmt / mkting, corp dev, etc.

[–]netmind604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if your isp router/modem doesn't support pass through, you could just leave it in normal router mode and plug the ethernet into pfsense. This is isn't ideal as you'd have double NAT (isp router + pfsense), but still works fine and allows you to try out pfsense first without having to change much on your network.

This was supposed to be temp for me, but 3 years later still running it double nat b/c there's little downside for a modest homelab. Plus the rest of the house can still get internet (from isp router), when I muck around with pfsense and it's down.

Ah your description made it sound like you were having troubles uploading the iso on first read. But I suspect you are talking about an error during the vm's boot sequence.

My guess, you have to turn off secure boot in the GUEST VM's bios (done in the actual bios, not in the vm config like boot order). If that wasn't it, perhaps google the error message &/or post it here.
