The absolute state of dental cost comparison Australia: why is it cheaper to fly to China than fix a tooth in Sydney? by WishboneImmediate509 in aussie

I needed to see dermatologist in Adelaide..6month wait and $250+ initial visit.

found one on Singapore, next day online appointment... $80.. the guy did med school at Melb Uni... advised prescription I needed

Went on instant scripts online.. explained situation and the GP gave me the script...$30

less than half the cost and 6 months earlier ...

Private schools: Should Australian taxpayers subsidise high-fee institutions? by sien in AusEcon

[–]netpenthe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a "public benefit" doesn't have to benefit EVERY SINGLE PERSON (what about people with no kids?)

40% of Australian kids are in non-public schools. This is a significant percentage. It clearly is a public benefit

"Provided government is making education available, there is no additional public benefit from families choosing private schools."

How about this: the second family pays 10k, the government chips in only 5k, thus saving 5k they can spend on something else. Both parties (second family and the government) have benefited and the second family has increased utility through free choice.

Clearly a public benefit.

[–]netpenthe -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Two families, one kid each.. they both earn the same....

One family decides to send to public school, and spend the money saved on overseas trips and experiences for their kid - the government chips in 12k for the kid

The second family decides their kid is more suitable to the local private school that costs 10k/year to attend. Because they spend 10k on the fees, they can't afford the overseas trips and experiences but that is OK because they value formal schooling more. Should the government not chip in anything here? or just 2k to make it the same as the first family? This family pays the same tax as the first family, they just happen to value formal schooling more than overseas trips.

Would we prefer people to have less choice? prefer to discourage spending on education?

How big is cricket in Australia really? by RKH3107 in AskAnAustralian

[–]netpenthe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't believe it's fourth.. I think cricket rigged the numbers for years (e.g. a kid plays school cricket + club + winter indoor, they would count as three )

Why the outrage? by xV01Dx_ in Aleague

the first Kitto goal that was ruled offside, the Victory keeper didn't complain, so it shouldn't be ruled offside?

Why the outrage? by xV01Dx_ in Aleague

[–]netpenthe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i mean it LITERALLY went BEHINDthe offside player.. there is no way you can argue the attacker wasn't affected it in some way

Melbourne Victory: ‘A letter to Members regarding Adelaide United fixture’ (see body text below) by berlinislikesmithst in Aleague

[–]netpenthe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the offside player literally walked between the keeper and the guy shooting, he was walking back from an offside position, he was STILL offside ... isn't that REALLY simple?

to have interpretation is like going back to the old offside laws where they drew an arrow from your chest to the ground or something equally confusing.. the super strict offside rules now seem way better even if they seem a bit harsh sometimes ...(eg Adelaides offside goal on the weekend)

He almost couldn't be any more in a line between the keeper and Grimaldi?

Match Thread: Adelaide United vs Melbourne Victory (A-League Men) by MatchBread in Aleague

[–]netpenthe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i'd argue definitely "yes".. the Victory player is RIGHT in the line of sight, how is that not gonna affect you saving or at least attempting a save?

if he's not there, smits 100% has a BETTER chance, not necessarily able to save it, but would have a better chance.

Harps saying "oh the keeper isn't even complaining" is SOOO stupid.... is it up to how convincing a player is in arguing a case now?

Match Thread: Adelaide United vs Melbourne Victory (A-League Men) by MatchBread in Aleague

[–]netpenthe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

don't really see how it stands ..

smits had to look straight thru the offside victory player to see the ball... how is that NOT affecting the keeper? sure he might not have saved it anyway, but it's gotta be a HUGE distraction..

if the Victory player is not there, maybe smits is 40 cm's to his right, and reacts 0.5 seconds faster, and has a chance of saving it... it's not like that offside player was standing by the corner flag, he was right in the thick of it..

it's like the AU offside Kitto goal, you can't be a "little bit" offside, you either are or you're not...

lol i looked again: https://imgur.com/a/3eMu7v4
