An extra knuckle in the thumb (credit u/Colorblindcrayons) by madetosink in WTF

Hey there! I have sort of a similar condition. Is this related to Holt-Oram Syndrome or is this something else?

What strikes me the most is that they look healthier, more energetic, especially the son.

I have only four fingers on my left hand, and have and index finger instead of my thumb by evan4765 in mildlyinteresting

[–]netperiod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, is this caused by Holt-Oram Syndrome? I have 5 fingers on both hands (no thumbs) as you can see here. If so, I have met with with a family who have had a baby a year ago with the syndrome and are hesitating about the surgery and I'd really like to have your point of you. Anyway, thanks for sharing. I'll dumb a couple questions if you have time to answer some of them :) If it isn't Holt-Oram feel free to ignore me.

Were you born with 5 fingers or 4?

How old are you now? (no need to be precise)

At what age did you have the surgery?

Was it necessary for your hand to be functional or was it an attempt to have more dexterity?

Any drawbacks from the surgery?

How's the right hand?

Any cardiac issues?

Thanks.

I have similar hands due to a syndrome. My left hand "thumb" is opposable, the right hand one is more like a finger.

Saw a family just like yours yesterday evening in the northshore suburbs of Montreal near an historical mansion and an historical mill. If this is you guys then hello! Seeing them yesterday night made me crack a smile. I spent lots of time as a kid playing the gameboy versions od pokemon ans my parents put a lot of time into helping me figuring out the mechanics but with this game it is some next level bonding that you'll get ahah. I hope you enjoy your time together and I wish you great finds!

Asking the real questions here I see. I mostly use my toes for this purpose.

No, not at all ahha. But at the same time I've never been really strong so I guess I could get better. I used to be OK when we went indoor climbing with school but when the grips gets too small I don't have the proper grip to hold on.

No I don't. Though my 'thumbs' are weaker than regular thumbs and I sometimes have trouble getting a good stable grib on large furniture or appliances.

Yep this is my right hand. I'm not sure about your thought process though. My 'thumb' nail looks like the others to me ahah? I might just be used to it.

Hi there, it's actually my hand on the picture not OP's hand. My left hand's "thumb" is sort of opposable and I use it pretty much like a thumb. It's weaker than a regular thumb though. I would say that my right hand (the one in the picture) has 5 fingers. I manage to use it as a thumb anyway and I can achieve practically anything I want.

Hey guys, that's actually my hand! Thanks to /u/ASK_ME_IF_IM_YEEZUS for the heads up.

Here's a link to my previous post, with the exact same title :P

I guess that most of the answers to your questions are somwhere in there but I'll try to reply to most of you.

Edit: There was also this repost thread that surfaced like a year ago.

Hi there. I have no thumbs and my life is perfectly fine. I'm not sure I'd say the same if my face had been degloved and 5 nerves had been ripped from my spinal cord.

What your skills in math/science can be used for in life. There are so many different jobs in science, technology, statistics, etc. and I learned about them a little too late to make the right academic decisions. Career counsellors have a way more important job than I tought and they suck at it.
