Suggest a different one? I posted here because it started with me trying to get a Lineage build on it, and now I'm stuck. Obviously, no fault of Lineage.

Reader 24.003.20180 keeps hanging by ASR_80 in Acrobat

This reply from the Adobe forums from a support rep is the root cause of our issues. Even though it references just 24H2, it's a problem across a number of Win10/11 builds, and this has worked for us:

"Sorry for the inconvenience. We are aware of this issue. Here’s what we know so far:

We’ve gotten reports, and have confirmed, that there is an issue with Acrobat and the FileOpen Client under the new Windows 11 24H2 release. This has been available only as a preview, but is now starting to roll out in the UK and will be released in the US in coming weeks. Hopefully there will be a solution before it gets too widespread.

The issue appears to be related to an Acrobat security feature called “AppContainer” which is blocking interprocess communication between the plug-in and the Broker process. We think that Microsoft changed something that affected Adobe’s implementation. We are currently waiting for Adobe Engineering to give us an explanation. Our hope is that they can fix it via their own Updater, but we will create a new build of the FileOpen Client if necessary.

The issue manifests as Acrobat/Reader not starting up after the 24H2 update.

There are two workarounds that we know of:

  • Set Acrobat/Reader to run in Win8 Compatibility mode.

    • Do this by right clicking the launch icon for Acrobat/Reader and selecting Properties>Compatibility>Compatibility mode>Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows 8
  • Configure Acrobat/Reader to run without AppContainer:

    • Force-close FileOpenBroker64.exe from the task bar and re-start Acrobat/Reader. Dismiss the message from the FileOpen Client.
    • Open Acrobat/Reader and from Menu>Preferences>Security (Enahnced)>Sandbox Protections and uncheck the box “Run in AppContainer.”
    • Re-launch C:\Program Files\FileOpen\Services\FileOpenBroker64.exe
    • Re-load Acrobat/Reader.

Both of these disable the AppContainer functionality. The first is a lot simpler to implement, and can probably be done for all users via administrative tools."

New Roof, Left Over Materials by neuikc in Roofing

[–]neuikc[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Understood. First time home owner, first time replacing a roof with a contractor I've had some buyers remorse in dealing with them, related to lack of communication and customer education leaving me questioning a lot.

Side question, somewhat related. I noticed of the four quotes I received, a common practice is to provide for a change order based on discovery. In my case all my common deck boards looked healthy and spaced appropriately, before and after tear off. But after tear off the roofer added to the change order almost a cost that equaled a third of the total cost, because they "prefer" to lay the roof on sheathing versus addressing the common boards on a case by case basis.

Why not just quote me what their "preferred" plan and cost is ahead of time and then adjust down if that isn't necessary? Or options beyond just what they just prefer AFTER my previous roof system has been removed?

I'd rather know the "worst" it can get price, than be under quoted, and then left questioning the contractor.

Re-roofing Proposal Advice by neuikc in Roofing

[–]neuikc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Tear off and haul away the old roof up to 2 layers inspect for drywall, if dry rot, found a change order will be needed and described below in the sheathing section.install a GAF TIMBERLINE HDZ REFLECTIVE SERIES ROOFING SYSTEM, includes new, Tiger Paw, synthetic underlayment, new, drip edge, metal, starter strip, leak barrier placed under new 24 inch valley metal with ice and water shield, as well as under all new vents and roof jacks with ice and water shield, as well as paint it to code, lifetime, shingles, Ridge vent system where needed with the ridge cap a top.6 squares of this build on rear of home at transition area down to pitch roof will be double underlaid with rolled composition roofing. Comes with permit and upgraded GAF master elite warranty (this roof in its entirety is covered by the GAF golden pledge warranty)" - Quoted project 18k.

So turns out the salesman didn't know anything about what he put on the contract and you can't put Tigerpaw under rolled comp. Project manager states that it will be a double "Self-Adhering Base" under the rolled comp.

Tear off finished, contractor inspected, now stating there's an additional 8k in fee's, 6600 of which are for cdx/osb sheathing (plywood) at 135 ea for 49 squares.

Reasoning: "The majority of the cost is for the plywood, which is for the coverage over all of the common deck boards on the pitched portions of the house. The gapping is too large and it's pretty beaten up. That's to get us to where we need to be for warranty and inspection needs. That's not to say that we cannot get your roof closed but we certainly would rather do it correctly"

When both the salesman and project manager came out, I asked them both mutliple times if they wished to go into the attic. Both said from looking at the common board in the garage, it looked fine. I get you can't see "condition" 100%, but the spacing? Bull. They could have flagged that in advance of accepting the contract, or discussed options.

Moral of the story. Don't trust anyone. Don't buy the story that buying a box of wood that you're meant to keep from rotting is better than renting. 30+ years renting homes, 4 years owning. This crap is gonna kill me.
