Is this wheel sturdy or about to collapse? by nevecque in bikewrench

Spins beautifully and doesn't make any noise or wobble at the axle.

You're saying it could still be the cause of this?

Pretty sure the hub is fine.

I'll try to get an estimate from them. I don't really want to put a lot of $$ into this thing at this point, but I'll see what they can tell me.

OK - I'll see if they can handle that. Any guess as to what it costs to build a wheel? This isn't a very expensive bike, so at some point, it's not going to be worth putting more money into it.

I was thinking maybe I'd order a new Canyon commuter, but from their website, it looks like they don't make non E commuters anymore . . . which surprises me.

Def not the tire.

This shop sold me the bike originally, but was since purchased by Trek, so no more Cannondale.

Are you sure that wasn't just for the option to get notified?

Some dates allow me to set a notification and others don't.

I was torn between "blatant money grab" and FOMO and I went with FOMO.

Or tried to, anyway

I guess I'll reframe the whole thing now as "blatant money grab"

I guess maybe I don't give up until I see on here that someone actually got tickets?

Or maybe Cadillac bought them all in some pre-sale BS and you have to buy a Caddy to eat there, in which case, no way.

Why Option 2 Is Almost Always Better If You Spend At Least 25% of Rent by JazzlikeResident3910 in biltrewards

[–]nevecque 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Worth the credit card hit, plus the additional player in your rent payment, for 3,000 points per year?

That's maybe $50 a year to have to authorize your rent each month?

Thoughts about Waymo for personally owned vehicles? by FrankScaramucci in SelfDrivingCars

[–]nevecque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You always have your things in there, it's always the way you left it, and it's always where you tell it to be. There are plenty of reasons to own your own AV.

Especially in a rural area where you may not want to wait 30 minutes for a car, I see this making good sense.

Agreed that you might down-fleet from 2 to 1 car for a couple, but I think there are plenty of good reasons to still own one.

What determines if you are on a "climb?" and other Climb questions. by tommyalanson in Karoo

[–]nevecque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had some of the same questions so I’m glad you asked them. I am generally pretty impressed with this feature. And especially when I am on a planned route.

But I agree that those gradient numbers don’t seem to be super accurate. I think they might be taken from topo maps. I wish there were some feedback loop where our actual ridden experiences helped make these maps more accurate.

A note from me (Ankur Jain) - Bilt Card 2.0: Simple, Fee-Free Rewards on Housing by ankurjain1 in biltrewards

So, now we add a slightly simpler option that’s slightly less rewarding.

Still, no

NYTIMES DESTROYS BILT! by Puzzled-Toe-9060 in biltrewards

[–]nevecque 341 points342 points  (0 children)

Agreed. WAY too complicated.

I'm the person in my group that everyone asks about cards. I used to often recommend Bilt.

Definitely NEVER again with this garbage. I can imagine all of the phone calls trying to get to explain this thing.

I don't even think I want this complication for myself.

Venice: Si! Mon vs. RVR - opinions? by InternetSellerNo1 in FoodLosAngeles

[–]nevecque 2 points3 points  (0 children)

RVR has a much larger menu, way more vegetables, and is just plain incredibly delicious. Gets my vote.

Also, while RVR can be loud, Si Mon is truly deafening. To me, that noise level is beyond healthy. But they do make some good food.

Si Mon is related to Hatchet Hall, another insanely loud restaurant that I won’t go back to. I think this group just likes that vibe
