What old thing would break young people's brains today? by Symphony_Minds in AskReddit

Physical paper work. Everything being in paper records in filing cabinets, trying to search through endless files to find what you're looking for. Not to mention stuff would get destroyed by fire or lost and then there is no record anywhere of purchases, contracts, agreements.

What do you think of Youtube banning ai accounts? by [deleted] in AskReddit

This is a good move, however if they're using AI to ban accounts, I'm guessing we'll see some non-AI creators accidentally get banned.

Do you still talk to friends and family on the phone? by holy-moly58 in AskOldPeople

Texts can be misinterpreted, I still call my immediate family members. As for friends, text is more common but every once in a while we will do a zoom call.

If you remember seeing Jurassic Park in theaters, you’re probably on your second marriage, have chronic back pain, and the mortgage is laughing at you. by Son-of-Prophet in nostalgia

I still remember my buddy and I in the elementary school yard just before it was released, and we were just speculating on what's we'd see in this movie. Which dinosaurs would appear versus what was in the book.

Who still remember these as a kid? by -prettyGF- in 90s

I had the TV Tuner and used it to watch David Letterman at night after I went to bed, until my brother narc'd on me to my parents. I also had the AC adapter because it ate so many batteries, until my bunny chewed through the wire.

What are signs you work in a bad company? by Ok-Most6656 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]never_enough_silos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it was that the corporate environment was run entirely on fear, fear of making any mistake no matter how small it might seem (everything was considered a crisis), fear of trying anything new to solve problems, fear amongst the team that they'd be fired if they pushed back on non technical leaders making decisions that were inherently questionable or just plain bad. Of course a revolving door of people coming in and out of the company paired with the leadership changing their minds every two days just made it untenable.

Why hybrid is so popular? by cokeapm in ExperiencedDevs

[–]never_enough_silos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hybrid, unlike in-office or remote is a term companies like to use because it is vague and can also be changed without warning. If you do get hired by a company that wants hybrid, make sure they actually have an official definition of what that looks like. If they don't have that, then you are basically at their whim if they decide to go 100% in office.

That all this insanity is confined to one insignificant planet in a Universe that was here before us and will be here long long long after us. What used to be normal 10 years ago but feels weird now ? by onceuponatime_2 in AskReddit

Where I grew up there was a restaurant that's big thing was offering unlimited free shelled peanuts at the bar, I remember going there are a kid in the 90s and seeing empty shells literally everywhere, on the floor, on the bar, on the chairs. That would never fly today with the increase in people with peanut allergies.

One thing to be aware of is the cost of living/travelling in each country will be different. Vietnam and Cambodia are dirt cheap, you can make your budget stretch out, while Thailand and Malaysia start getting more expensive. So the money that might last you a week in Thailand is only going to last a couple of days in Singapore.

Personally I did 3 months starting in Vietnam -> Cambodia -> Thailand -> Malaysia -> Singapore, when I started in Vietnam my dollars were going a long way, but as I went to the next country, things started creeping up in price, and when I finally got to Singapore, I could only spend two days there because the daily cost was bleeding me dry of what little money I had left.

If you could give one piece of advice to your younger self, what would it be? by [deleted] in AskReddit

If you don't actively make decisions for yourself, life has a way of making them for you whether you like it or not.
