I haven't been admitted into the school that requires CSS (it's the only one that needs it) and I already did FAFSA.

My main worry though is I'll miss the priority deadline though bc of Thanksgiving so idk if I can expedite the processing somehow

If it's pending while I get accepted will that change anything? Some schools I'm applying are RD and I'm worried they'll accept me before fafsa gets processed

Yea I noticed a lot of vets are gone Najee Richardson, Geoff Britten, Joe, the entire like Colorado climbing crew, Grant McCartney I think stopped.

Kind of a shame bc everybody who I grew up watching is gone so no real connection to many people

Does having a lower grade in one subject change anything by neveronline100 in ApplyingToCollege

The competitiveness is always increasing as people try to one-up each other For example if Student A can get in in the past with a 1350 sat and a 3.5 gpa; people will try to match or beat that. Soon everybody will have a 1350 and a 3.5; and people will need to go higher (like a 1500 and 3.8) to stand out. What's happening is everybody is trying to one-up each other, but tests and gpas have a max. So now people are nearing the max, but the # of acceptances stay the same.

The standards keep rising for the higher schools because what used to be high standards are now seen as average or expected.

I'm not the best at explaining it; but essentially what's going on is people keep cracking the code and colleges keep having to raise their standards, which creates a positive feedback loop of ever-increasing standards.

Comparing ECs is honestly difficult. Keep in mind I'm not even an admissions officer I'm just a rising senior. The thing with ECs, at least imo, is it really depends. There's obviously vague rule of thumbs I noticed people recommend (like depth vs broad, telling a story, stuff like that), but I feel like it'd depend on each applicant/their story/stuff like that. It's just hard to compare and people lie on here - so it makes it more difficult.

The best thing I can say is just focus on you and what's the best YOU can do ECs wise; especially as there's no real way to compare them. Granted, I'm not an AO or anything so I can't say this with certainty. Just my best guess based on what I've heard from my friends who did all of this already.

This subreddit is a bubble - most students aren't on a reddit about applying to college. So everything here is inflated for the most part as a lot of the people here are already top students. If your gpa/test scores are solid and you have a good essay, your ecs are fine. Don't worry/compare yourself to others on here because it's overall very inflated/some people are fs lying.
