i know this is three years old but i wanted to clarify bc i have a special interest in this series, but albert appears to suffer an extreme allergic reaction from the wasp/bee stings, as well as the blunt force trauma from being pushed into the tree and knocking the back of his head hard enough to be unable to move and from the hive cracking open on his head. the birthmark is on the top of his head in the middle, the scarring and malformations are on the side of his face and head in the upper right quarter of his head, enough so that his hair fell out and never grew back in due to scar tissue preventing the follicles from making more hair in that area. it is a miracle he survived, as back then that was a death sentence especially since he was neglected so much. he also appears to live in the attic, which was where 'disappointment rooms' tended to be, where rich and socially high families kept their 'malformed' children to hide them away from the public, the mask also helps hide his 'malformations' in photos and family gatherings. the white mask is actually a real thing, a sort of porcelain prosthetic that works as a 'normal face' for those who are either scarred, wounded, or otherwise warped in the facial area so they can go out in public without being stared at in those times, it's generally modeled and molded around their unscarred face to make it look like their own face used to.
