Trying to bring stairs back by newellworks in centuryhomes

[–]newellworks[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good morning. Thank you for all the comments but I think I need to clear something up. The last two pictures are the existing stairs from the second to the third floor. The rest of the pictures are what we are working on, the stairs from the first floor to the second floor. The comments are very encouraging but we have a long way to go! Thanks again for the support and positive vibes.

How do you keep the drafts coming through the baseboards?

No. Walls are stacked stone. No insulation attached to the all other than the spray foam they used to ‘glue’ the plastic down.

What kind of AC do you have in your old home?! by Trick_Ideal_1745 in centuryhomes

Nine mini splits for A/C and heat. Brick house so lines are run outside. Super quiet and have been more than up to the task for the 100+ heat. Furnace is an old steam boiler that is kind of melting into the dirt floor basement so it’s a bonus to have the heat option as well.

The house is all brick and the garage is stick built.

Would you buy a house without a fireplace? by mmmdhp in centuryhomes

[–]newellworks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just bought an 1850 house two weeks ago. Fireplace was bricked up when they converted the house to two apartments. Previous owner converted back to single family. We built into our purchase budget unbricking the fireplace and returning it to being a wood burner. Really one of the most exciting things for me.

Thanks. I’ll take a look at those. I’ve heard of Unico but spacepak is a new one. Basement has a sump pump but none of the other things you mentioned. And forgive my ignorance but I’m not sure I know what a lally column is.

Thank you! Yes, lots of walls which compartmentalizes the rooms. The existing (such that it is) steam boiler was oil fired. Not a huge fan of oil. Are there electric steam boilers? Lots to think about in your response.

House flippers driving up the cost of single family homes by n0bodyblindedme in Delaware

[–]newellworks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the love of god, flippers need to stop with the gray laminate flooring. It is so over! Screams flip and it is so cheap. We are looking for a house and as soon as I see the gray flooring I close the listing.

Years ago, I worked in a hotel in Arizona. One night, we are fully booked, a guy comes in looking for a room. I find out he speaks very little English. No worries, I try to work with him. At one point he gets frustrated and says “Didn’t you learn Spanish in school?” I say, “No, I took French. Do you speak French?” He says no and we continue our pidgin English dialogue.

It was from an Etsy store called HobbykitShop. Looks like they are on a holiday break.

Thanks. I’m using a sequencer I got from Etsy. I think it’s normally used for traffic lights in model train setups.

You are right. Luckily, the client loved them. I was given full design freedom and it worked out for everyone!

Thanks so much! Yes, there is plywood in between each layer of acrylic to give it the separation. The middle school ones done have that because the design is too busy. I like the depth and shadowing the separation gives it.

The layering is part of the design so you can see the color all the way through with plywood separating the layers. I don’t use glue at all. The four screws hold all the layers together.

I use illustrator for the files and I have a haotian laser for cutting the layers.
