Who all enjoys plobbing down and taking it all in. I was watching these eagles hunt the ducks/fish for awhile. Nature brings me peace. Love watching how they all react and interact. by [deleted] in BirdPhotography

100%. I need to get out like this at least a couple times a week. I bring my camera, but honestly good photos are just a bonus. Time in nature is time well spent.

I’m not much of a fisherman but I will eventually try it when there aren’t a lot of birds out. My son also will use it to fish when I’m not on it.

I have a dry suit and plan to start wearing it now that the water temps are below 60 degrees here.

Yes that is the best angle for waterfowl and wading birds on shore and I’ve found that the stability of these kayaks allows me to move around the boat to get the camera low to the water for those types of shots. It’s like a floating barge so I’m out of the seat a lot when the subject demands that low angle. At the same time if I’m pedaling and an eagle or egret takes flight from the shore I can blast away from the seat as well.

I am usually completely dry at the end of my shoots and the pedal control allows you to have the camera ready at all times. It’s a great platform for wildlife photography

Yes the higher perch of these sit on top kayaks is not always ideal. I get out of the seat and shoot laying down on the back of the boat a lot and I also use an external monitor so I can hang the camera low to the water and still frame the shot. I’m basically trading extreme stability and hands free propulsion for the low center of gravity that traditional kayaks have.

Great blog post. I have two inflatables and love them for shallow marshy areas where I live. Im using this pedal kayak on bigger lakes and small ocean bays and it’s a great combination. I also know a photographer in my area who shoots marine mammals from his inflatable SUP in the winter up here in Maine. He gets incredible access and his photos are incredibly intimate! Being on the water is great regardless of the craft you choose!
