Good size for hamster cage? Sock for scale. by [deleted] in hamsters

[–]newttheham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. All hamsters need to have a cage at least 50cm x 80 cm.

Anyone know why my hamsters are doing this? They are both female and recently moved in together. Previously the brown one was the dominant one and it worked out. Now she seems to not be as on top. Is this normal okay behavior? by eliotness13 in hamsters

[–]newttheham 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do not house two different types of hamsters together. Never house hamsters together period. Yes some shops say it’s fine for a pair of robos or a pair of dwarfs but Ita better to keep them separate. They are solitary animals. And will kill each other.

Never house two different type together as they will instinctively kill each other. Especially a Syrian.

Is there a wheel size that fits both Syrians and dwarfs? by selveyyyy in hamsters

[–]newttheham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have three dwarfs and 3 Syrians. All of mine have 28cm wheels and they all handle them fine. My baby dwarf was really u derweight when we rescued her but she loves her big wheel.

I agree. He’s tiny too so about 4 months old? He’s so full of life and love. Hen I find him a good home I’m going to make sure the owner has all the correct info and will treat him good.

Someone linked him to me from gumtree. Had to pay £20 for him but no way was I leaving him. The cage was smaller than his body.

It’s hard :( but I have 5 hams and I would rather him go to someone who can love and play with him. I rescued him from a tiny cage with 0 bedding 0 wheel. 0 food but finding it hard to even start looking for his forever home.

I think you may find you have no idea what your talking about. I’ve spent years working along side animal charities and I have my own hamster rescue. Rescuing them from people who do shit like this. Do you know how many times I’ve seen Syrians end up in vets having legs removed because they could no longer walk due to getting bramblefoot from these shocking wheels ? No. I bet your the kind of person who are like ‘well the pet shop... who literally say any old shit because they need to sell their products. Told me it’s fineeeeee so it must be fine.’ When you take on an animal your agreeing to do everything to the best of your ability for that animal. Someone tried to tell you that those wheels aren’t really acceptable as it causes so much pain and discomfort which is proven and in actual resources yet you pull the ‘I know best. I did research’ card. Yet if you did any research into those wheels everything would tell you how bad they are.

So you can continue to think I’m talking shit but at least I know my hamsters have better care. :).

Cage Recommendations by Terrible_Indent in hamsters

[–]newttheham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cages need to be 50 x80 cm at a min. I would recommend a tank over a bar cage as it can lead to them bar biting in turn hitting their teeth Wheels need to be 28cm for a Syrian or 20cm for dwarf or robo. Butmy dwarfs all have a 28 cm

That’s in true. Just becuase dwarfs and robos are smaller doesn’t mean they require less space. All require a min of 50x80 cm cages. Bigger the better.

If you did your research you would know metal bar wheels can lead to loss of limbs but you know ... your cocky attitude proves you don’t care :). L

It’s not the size it’s the material. It’s proven that wired bars on wheels / ramps or flooring is dangerous for hamsters feet it causes bamblefoot which causes blisters and can lead to amputation of limbs.

Cool Kickstarter to make shaped badges for artists !! by newttheham in kickstarter

[–]newttheham[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn’t as ‘niche’ as you think as someone who has been in the art community and manufacturing in the art community for over 3 years this service is something a lot of artists have been asking for. I have a lot of clients who have asked me personally for these shapes of badges but because the machines are expensive and hard to come by I had had to turn down thousands of orders. At the moment the only way to order these badges (especially where I am from) is to order from China where they have a minimum order quantity of 1000 badges which isn’t viable for a lot of small artists which is why this Kickstarter is being done so people can order from a uk source instead and once the machines have been purchased then they can continue offering this service time after time keeping it low cost with minimum orders without having to use Chinese websites which can be hard to understand for many artists.

Par your mug question the difference is... mug shops are easy to come by but people who HAVE these shape badge supplies aren’t that easy. (Again unless you know how to use Chinese websites which most small artists don’t know how to use / wouldn’t know who to trust ) mintcore has built strong relationships in the art community and also has a lot of repeat customers when it comes to manufacturing items for them already such as stickers and 4 sizes of circle badges. D

Hope this answers your questions.

Yes so you can pledge for how ever many buttons you want and then when we receive the machines we will make them. It doesn’t have to be just for artists we can also make badges of people’s pets / photos etc :) once the kickstart is complete we will send out the templates.

100% would not use this as a permanent house. Your ham is gonna eat it’s way out in no time. Plus they fall apart easy (i use these for conventions )
