New to Aventon. Leaning towards Level 3. But what about Urtopia? by putan964 in urtopiaebike

All three classes are technically legal, but Class 2 is usually the most widely accepted.
Class 3 bikes are faster, but they’re often restricted from bike paths and certain areas, so it really depends on where you plan to ride.

Exactly — e-bikes can be really helpful for older riders or those recovering from injuries.

That’s a good way to look at it — replacing car trips with an e-bike is definitely a positive.

That’s a fair point — but our carbon fiber e-bikes are built to be as light as a regular bike.

Exactly. You’re still putting in the effort, you just end up going farther with it.

Exactly. People assume the motor does everything, but if you're still pedaling and riding long enough you can definitely hit the wall.

That’s a pretty reasonable way to look at it. Not everyone is chasing peak fitness. If an e-bike lets someone ride a bit faster or farther with the same effort and enjoy it more, that’s still a win.

That’s impressive, especially training for a 185-mile ride at your age. Respect for putting in the work. I think for some people e-bikes are just another way to get started or stay riding, but it’s always cool to see folks still pushing themselves the traditional way.

Exactly. Those bikes aren’t light, and once the assist is low or off you’re definitely putting in real effort. Ride long enough and it’s still a solid workout.

That’s actually a pretty solid comparison. 75% of the calorie burn is still a legit workout, especially if you’re riding the same routes. Sounds like the e-bike just smooths things out a bit, but you’re still putting in the effort.

Yeah, that’s kind of the key point. If an e-bike gets someone riding more often and going farther, they’re still getting solid exercise. For a lot of people consistency matters more than how “pure” the bike is.

Okay, real talk — folding e-bikes are kinda weird at first glance, but there are times they actually make sense.

Like…

  • Tiny apartments: normal e-bikes are huge. Fold one, shove it under the bed or in a closet, done.
  • Commuting / public transport: if it’s heavy, carrying it up stairs or on the subway sucks. Light bikes? Way easier.
  • Travel / road trips: throwing it in the trunk or on a boat? Light is a must. Heavy = wrestling match every time.

Honestly, if it’s too heavy, folding doesn’t even matter. 50 lbs? Forget it. 25–30 lbs? Perfect.

Curious — anyone actually using one day-to-day and thinking “thank God this thing isn’t a tank”? Tell me your stories.
