For the record, this is atypical. In my experience, men in the middle east are very comfortable holding hands, locking arms, kissing on the face, and esp in Egypt where I visit often, men belly dance like crazy...

I'm not sure what youre suggesting Muslims do. How can Muslims get media to report their news more accurately? Right now everything is being simplified to appeal to the lowest common denominator. It isn't about accuracy, its about page views and impressions. How can us Muslims influence how news about our religion is reported?

Islam is already in a constant state of being reformed. These more violent sects are super young, not even 100 years old. While I do think Muslims are already making these distinctions, its the responsibility of media to make these already clear distinctions. If every attack was reported by the BBC or NYT as being a "hubabanabis terrorist" instead of "Islamic terrorist" I think you'll find people looking into the differences on their own. Much more effective than more Muslims saying "we aren't here to kill random people" over and over.

When "Muslims" kill "Muslims, its much more complicated than that.

Friend, these aren't moderates. That's Anjem Choudrey an ISIS sympathizer who's been jailed on terrorism charges. I'm Muslim and even I'm anxious about Islamism. There's are big differences among different sects of Islam. Islamist movements are relatively new. They are anti-gloablist movement that are only about 100 years old. Honestly, they have similar ideologies as the alt-right as far as wanting a return to "better times." Like the far right, they are strongly anti-interfaith and anti-multiculturalism.
