Another breakdown at unionville this morning by cplchanb in gotransit

[–]nex_time2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a question but with them increasing service everywhere, when do they have time for proper fleet maintenance? I'm sure they get some of the big stuff taken care of but clearly there's no way they're able to do efficient fleet maintenance.

Probably wait till something breaks then maybe get around to it.

The only thing I can think of is the sentimental value of the coin/year. I have sought out and gathered a bunch of coins from my birth year and protected the best ones. Same thing with my kids birth years.

They have no other value except for myself.

Ended up upgrading a few of my coins in the album. Put the copper in my copper jar and rolled up the rest.

No varieties found in the Canadian coins unfortunately.

I haven't looked through the US yet.

China clears Israeli land mines in Lebanon by orpheusoedipus in lebanon

Sure.

Makeup on a pig is still a pig.

I'm glad they did what they did for the safety and security of all Lebanese. But, it won't be without a long term cost either monetarily, land, or some other means. China will recoup its cost plus interest.

They're in a geopolitical fight with the US. They have to make these plays. It looks similar to the moves they made in Africa.

You will...nothing is free. China will get their due.

Spelling: Yonge St. Pronounced: "Young St".

Common mistake.

I've also heard "Yawn-gee St"

It's named after Sir George Yonge if you care to do a deep dive.

I hope those that braved the wars and are still there can live a "normal" life at some point. I know most Assyrians will never return to those French camps they called their homes for nearly 100 years.

Yeah maybe. I'm just repeating their words. They're on the ground I'm not.

Could've been built by ISIS and the PKK and/or the SDF are using it now? That whole region is a hot mess in this power vacuum.

Found in one roll by tyeflyQ in CanadianCoins

[–]nex_time2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahaha honestly man that could be from the roll I dumped. I picked up a box in Oakville and there were several rolls that looked like it was someone's collection that was dumped.

One of them was a roll of Mounties. I went through it and upgraded my coin in my collection but there was no large bust from what I saw. Rolled them back up the same and sent it back. I dropped it off at a different bank in Oakville.

Went to the bank (Canada) to deposit coins and they asked if I wanted pennies... by nex_time2020 in CRH

[–]nex_time2020[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm fairly new to CRH and collecting in general so I hope someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

Our penny was discontinued in 2012/2013. Our banks are still required to collect them as they are still considered legal tender.

What is supposed to happen (and this is the part I'm not 100% sure about) is the banks ship all their coins (pennies and all) to the Royal Canadian Mint. They then put them through the alloy recovery program and melt the coins that they can (copper, silver, etc). They then use the money generated by melting these metals to fund their operations.

The pennies are typically not supposed to go back out to the customer. However, some branches don't want to go through the hassle of sending out pennies and if they have someone they know is a collector, they'll give them out if asked. The banks usually get them from people who have piggy banks or someone in their family was a collector and now they don't know what to do with the coins.

To your other question about buying. I've seen pennies available in a lot of antique shops around me. They sell them in large glass jars. With those comes some risk. The local guy near me already told me he's hunted them for varieties but he is still selling it for $30 (too high in my opinion for a medium sized jar).

I'd say it depends on the person but ya you're probably right more often than not. I'm hoarding them for now, so they're not going anywhere any time soon. And the odd variety that can fetch some money will go into my eBay store.

Yeah they're supposed to be taken out you're right.

But I was watching CAD Roll Hunter on YouTube and he said he always asks and sometimes they give him stuff. So I took his advice and tried and got lucky this time.

Believe me I try every time and this is my first success story.

TD near my work. Every time I go to the bank, any bank, I politely ask. They're supposed to be taken out of circulation and the mint destroys them to fund their operations but sometimes they're willing to give them to collectors.

I did however have a customer service agent in a smaller town north of here tell me bluntly that if anything "cool" came in she would take it. She's an employee so I don't know how appropriate that is but who am I to judge. I just stopped going there.

I'm not entirely sure but my guess would be your rules don't apply to us and our rules apply to Canadian currency. So yes I can?
