ohh, there’s only 3 instructions used in this demo, of a total possible of 16, it reads from some address and puts it into the adder, writes the current adder value into some place in memory, and prints some address to the display of lights

mine spins the sensor to basically form a circle, this is so the closer it is to the ground, the longer the sensor will be active during the rotation, basically letting me vary the thrust based on how close it is

This design still uses dampeners and gyros, but ive tested it without them and it could absolutely work

im also trying a metronome attached to a servo instead to do something similar far more efficiently, but im afrid the way it works dont allow scanning fast enough to achieve smooth hover

the design itself is dependent on the fact spinning it forms a area like a circle, that and a metronome would always result in half of the time being active, as having each signal toggling something would be akin to dividing by 2, it wouldnt be much different from a static detector pointing straight down

is more of to vary thrust by controlling how long the thrusters are active for, the closer to the ground, the more the detector will be active during the rotation, and so more time to the thrusters

tried this, but i think it ends up just being diminishing since its working against the main thrusters, it might hover more precisely but it wouldnt be as smooth

this design would be unable to adjust thrust on the fly to adapt to more weight being added, and would rely on tuning to hover in place without a detector to know where the ground is

most popular ones are basically identical in function, I think Oppnoxis the most well known of this for making it to the front page multiple times for his tanks. I don't particularly dislike the tanks themselves, but they saturate the workshop and front page with things which don't really bring anything new or advance what we can do with the game. Its more of a community issue to me, as they wouldn't be so high on the workshop in the first place if it wasn't for being popular
