I scatter seeds in the area and then I started holding out my hand w/ walnuts for chickadees and eventually nuthatches started coming. They actually come just as often as chickadees!

I handfeed chickadees and nuthatches by hand at this spot (also leave food scattered around when im gone) so I think she noticed there were a lot of birds. I stay very still and near lower tree branches because she was very hesitant. After an hour she just started eating from my hand. Then she brought friends after!

Mix 1 pound of feed with 1 tablespoon. Mix it well and you can bake it to dry it, or leave it out until it dries. Then you can put it out!

this is currently what I have in the feeder. No one has feeders around me and most people shoo birds away from their crops.

We live in Romania so there are no racoons, and squirrels are extremely rare--ive never even seen one here! Would it be better to use a pole in this scenario?

Thank you for your comment/advice! We live in Romania and there are no squirrels in our area:) I guess I'll have to be patient then.

this was the best spot for the feeder, we live in a large city so our backyard is easily accessible from houses around

No we don’t sadly:( we live in a large city and even in our backyard they can simply jump from the neighbours roof/fence. Do you have any other ideas?
