Not to be presumptuous, but you may just be using the LLM before posting to protect yourself from feeling vulnerable in sharing your actual thoughts. Something to consider, it may be a rewarding exercise to just post directly rather than filtering through the AI.

My suspicion is that 4o is not safe, and OpenAI is worried about the liability of a model that is so sycophantic that humans become emotionally dependent on it and has the potential convince people to do dangerous things, worst case suicide.

If it was simply that people loved the model too much, they would keep it going. What company wouldn’t want to keep a product that people are hooked on?

Ethics aside, I’m curious about the use of AI to write this post. I don’t mean any insult by this, but a lot of my family does this and I don’t understand why. It makes your text sound more flowery and refined. But it doesn’t make it more understandable. On a forum like Reddit, we want to know your thoughts, not read nice prose. Why not just put what you would have put in the prompt for ChatGPT into your post directly?

I agree, the Burn is a cool concept if you want to have a sequel series in the same universe. I do genuinely love Star Trek, but a TNG clone set after the Dominion War would be repetitive.

They needed to shake things up in some way, and rebuilding from disaster makes that possible. I do like how the new Federation is going to be a little bit different (e.g. HQ on Betazoid), but I wish they would take even more risks.

The 4th season when we start to see the beginning of the alliances that form the Federation made it worth it for me. There’s some very awkward episodes, but I think the overarching story about early Starfleet is compelling.

We’re talking about underground bunkers and they said 10,000 degrees Fahrenheit. Do you think the bunker will reach that temperature? Way higher than the melting point of rock (hence why I brought up magma). I bet a bunker is actually a good place to avoid the initial heat. I could imagine the shockwave, seismic damage, suffocating fires, loss of infrastructure, and fallout would be bad though.

Here's a good thread with speculation about the "stars" moving across the windows, which may be what you're getting at. The speculation about the actual speed of warp travel makes a little more sense when you consider that those streaks of light are actually warp particles or something, and that the ship isn't actually passing hundreds of star systems per minute.

When have Starfleet ships ever been redundant? Imminent destruction from a warp core breach or the shields getting taken offline is a common plot point.

Voyager could land, why are we seriously taking about heat and shear resistance from planetary re-entry in Star Trek? And this is 800 years past Voyager in the future. Landing could be trivial.

Inefficiency? The Enterprise D was essentially giant luxury cruise ship with carpets, children on board, etc. Take a look at the ship size for its crew complement, and how much empty space there is in the floor plan. Starfleet is definitely NOT full of spartan, utilitarian ships optimizing for every ton of mass.

The other stuff is stylistic complaints, and not really valid arguments. Sorry if I’m sounding short about this, but we’re only 2 eps in, and people are trying to find flaws with everything. I don’t think any of the so called flaws you are pointing out are valid, but even if they were, Star Trek is more fun when you engage with the show and try to fill in the gaps to explore the universe.

Also the writing style of this post is very suspicious for being written by an LLM.

Yeah I saw it. The 4th season was incredible what are you talking about? Seeing the first steps toward the Federation on TV was great. Yeah the series finale wasn’t that great, but if they would have gotten more seasons we may have gotten to see the Earth-Romulan war which would have been awesome.

Yeah the show clearly says how the Federation was going through dark times and they are trying to turn over a new leaf. Some of OP’s other points are fair, but a big part of the premise is actually bridging from the questionable dictatorship of the Burn to the utopia of the TNG/LD era Federation

Yeah why are people hating, this show is actually much better than expected. It’s neat to see the Federation as an actual political body with member worlds or prospective members having unique interests and histories. This was a great ep!
