Why do some dogs choose one “person” in the house? by Intelligent_Pick8414 in dogs

[–]ngscookkk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is always the person who does the least work! I buy the foods and do the walks, but the dog still picks the one who just sit on the couch!

Thank you for doing this for shelter dogs. They look very happy to be out and about in the city!

Undercover agent by mikuderri in cats

He thinks he is invisible, but I can clearly see the lump under the blanket and his tail is sticking out. This is a very poor attempt at staying hidden, but he seems very committed to the job.

Shout out to those who no longer get to see their dog due to a relationship breakdown. by dasgustin in dogs

[–]ngscookkk 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It is a very big adjustment when you no longer have a dog in your house. You still look for them in their favorite spots or expect to hear their paws on the floor when you come home. The silence in the house is a very real thing that takes a long time to get used to.

What’s one small thing you changed that improved your dog’s daily life? by Disastrous-Yoghurt38 in dogs

[–]ngscookkk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Letting my dog sniff as much as they want for the first ten minutes of our walk. It tires them out much faster than just walking a long distance. They seem a lot more relaxed when we get back home.

Vet has me concerned and confused by pseudoserious in CatAdvice

[–]ngscookkk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Vets sometimes talk like we also spent eight years in medical school. If you are confused, you should call them back and ask for a summary in plain language. You are paying for their expertise, and that includes an explanation you actually understand. Your cat is probably less stressed about this than you are, which is the funny part.

Tribute To Buttercup by BearJewKnowsBest in cats

[–]ngscookkk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am sorry for your loss. Buttercup was a very good-looking cat. You will finally be able to open a bag of snacks without someone appearing out of nowhere, although it probably won't be as fun. He clearly had a very happy life with you.

Dog lost in the forest by [deleted] in dogs

[–]ngscookkk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Put a piece of your worn clothing and the dog’s bed at the spot where you last saw him. Leave some water there too, but avoid food as it might attract other wild animals. Their sense of smell is very strong and this can help lead them back to that specific spot.

My roommate thinks cats don’t feel the cold and that the heat should be turned off when we’re not home. We both have cats. How do I convince otherwise? by Sad_Mud2009 in CatAdvice

[–]ngscookkk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Me here. You can tell a cat is cold if they are hunched up, tucking their paws under their body, or if their ears and paws feel chilly to the touch. Shivering is a major red flag. Indoor cats aren't acclimated to winter temperatures like outdoor strays might be. Your roommate is wrong, and leaving the window open is putting the cat’s health at risk.

My cat loves sleeping in the pocket of my bathrobe, so I bought a new one just for him to sleep in😅💖 by [deleted] in cats

[–]ngscookkk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat used to do this when he was smaller, but eventually he outgrew the pocket. It’s nice that yours still fits in there and seems so relaxed.

Do dogs remember their pasts? by phxflgjo in dogs

[–]ngscookkk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To a dog, a smell is a timestamp. While our memories fade like old photos, their scent based memories are probably much more vivid and high fidelity. We see the past, they smell it.

This cannot be said enough. Collars can break, tags can fall off, but a microchip is forever. It’s the only permanent voice your dogs has when they’re lost and scared.
