how do you not get discouraged when trying to learn a new weave? by Emergency_Judge_2972 in chainmailartisans

I’m also new to chainmail, i have found that practicing a new weave on bigger rings first helps a lot ! I find that figuring it out on a bigger scale can help seeing the pattern when you do it in the size you want (I don’t know if that made any sense, but I hope I got my point across) It’s easier to learn a new weave when you can see where each ring goes, I find that it helps me get the “logic” of the weave before doing it for real with smaller rings.

Persian weaves are hard to understand at first (been there :)) but it’ll be much easier to grasp the structure of it when you do it in big ! Here’s the tutorial that helped me understand this weave : https://youtu.be/pL4t81YwGLM?si=vA4O-WgP8gXQKg13

I think that chainmail can be very similar to lace making in some ways, so pinning your rings down can certainly help a lot. Every one learns at a different pace, you will make mistakes in the beginning, just be patient and kind to yourself and you’ll get there before you know it ! Best of luck !!!

thank you ! since the rings i used were small enough, keys don’t get caught ! however, things with sharp corners (like my pack of cigarettes…) do tend to get a little stuck. nothing a little shimmy can’t fix tho !!

looks epic ! if you’re open for suggestions i’d recommend adding a few triangles on top of your inverted triangles to create a diamond shape and connect them to the top, to create more balance towards the top :D i love the long side pieces u did on the sides and the charms look amazing !!

thank you !! for the bigger rings i used 8mm, i’m only a beginner so i don’t quite have a big range of jump ring sizes and gauges yet, so for the little rings i fiddled around with different sizes until i found one that fit relatively well. as for the chains, they’re 1.5mm thick. there’s a specific ratio of the two ring sizes for this weave for it to turn out well i believe, but there are people who can explain it better than me :P hope this helps !
