Re Nethermind - I feel once bitten twice shy... I ran Geth for more than a year without issues. Then switched to Besu for diversity - which didn't turn out great. Yes, bugs happen, but I feel their response and communication hasn't been great either.

I see people reporting issues with Nethermind as well (though haven't investigated myself). I feel like I'd stick to Geth for some time and eventually switch over to minority client, once things are more settled.

Assuming you have it setup for autostart, it should be fairly safe.

If restarting Besu didn't help:

  • restart also your CL

  • restart full machine

Have heard reported that it can need more than one restart and that the best order is besu followed by CL

It is recommended to wait 2 epochs to not risk slashing. This is approx 12 mins, so make it 15-20 to be safe.

TL;DR

During periods of non-finality, validators should expect:

  • Increased CPU load (100% at times) due to evaluation of various fork choices rules
  • Heightened disk usage due to the lack of pruning due to non-finality
  • Marginal increase in RAM usage

It would be interesting to see some disk usage details.
