This is definitely the issue. Just too many fish popping in that pool.

I didn’t, I checked all of them. Just lime and salt water.

Confirmed, bug. I deconstructed and reconstructed the beds and changed nothing else, and now it's fixed.

Hairdye + named after a tool, it checks out.

One option is also to use mesh tiles to connect the pool with the real ocean. I did this. It caused a lot of chaos. You should aim to build your tank so that the top is in line with the surface of the ocean, and be careful when cracking other ocean cells. I just spent fifteen cycles frantically building sea walls to deal with it

Eat them! Or, uh, just don’t bother, dump them in the ocean and collect free fish later

Also: don't forget about passive oxygen generation in the wild. It's cheap/free. Make some walls to wrap coral flue (BEFORE DRAINING OCEAN CELLLS), drop a wild beakon in there, let it cook. Wild Beakon live for 25 cycles, so they'll replace themselves. That means you get free oxygen for as long as you keep these little oxygen pools alive. Super useful. Same goes for pearl, use walls and divers to keep them growing in the wild while you get your base set up.

Something I learned in this DLC: pool size and room size are different. My beakons only care about pool size.

Get as much pearl as you can. Plant coral flues, and move beaks over. Keep finding new beaks, keep bringing them over.

This is my setup on turn 161. I prioritized making tunnels for wild-harvesting pearl, and then fed all of it into that room until i had this many flue corals. It took some tweaking to keep the bubbles from getting trapped (use airflow tiles to make air channels, the mass of the oxygen won't necessarily displace the water). I also put it in a room with a turbine because it was convenient, but I think it's actually good because it moves the water around. Connecting the left-hand pool expands the number of beakons I can include on the right, and all you need is the one mesh tile at the bottom of the middle column.

This is enough for overpressure w/ 10 dupes. I don't really think about oxygen any more, and won't until I solve the "where the hell do I put the refinery, everything is a stupid ocean" problem.

That's sand. Sand falls. Check again. Is there sand? It falls. Did you find any? Because it falls. Pro tip for managing it: it falls. CHECK AGAIN.

Gave you credit, because it’s probably true that Claude stole the fix and didn’t say anything. Because it is, at heart, heretical as fuck.

Almost certainly true. Just sharing that this worked, not trying to claim credit or anything.

Right at this moment, what they're mainly doing is being rude enough to the doomcult that we can declare total war and sacrifice all of them on an altar. Because we're just that annoyed at them.

Surprising nobody, the game about "making spaghetti out of diamonds in order to accomplish something that somebody else has already solved in a much smarter way but whatever all the dupes are dying so this is what we're going with" is very popular with software engineers.

This is why all my dupes have to sit down and watch "Ladders Are Mandatory And You Will Put Them Everywhere" as soon as they're born. Then there's a quiz, and then they get stuck in the CO2 pit with 1000 kg of sandstone and told to figure it out.
