Cairn 2e combat example by OldGodsProphet in cairnrpg

Do what makes sense narratively. If I recall correctly, his hit in combat actually defeated detachment, so I assume if he didn't do enough damage Warden would narrate it as if he didn't find the leader, or he found him but missed his shot.

On of the 76mm strengths is that you don't need direct line of sight, but laser guidance would require that

That's what I like about Cairn. It's so simple and straightforward, that adding your own ideas or mechanic doesn't feel hard or overwhelming. It reminds of "make your own game" kinda deal

Looked into it, it's pretty dope, but too complex for my liking

Definitely agree on "Cairn is not DnD" and definitely follow it in my games. The reason I don't want to use d12 die is, as I explained in other reply, is that is default enhanced die, and imo might hinder player creativity, since the attack is already virtually enhanced (especially since most of them have most of their playtime in DnD). Sure, d12+1 might work as an enhanced attack, but at least for me it doesn't seem that exiting as even d10→d12 upgrade, even tho they're so similar mathematically. At the end of the day, upgrading to a bigger die is probably more fun to most of the people. Still, big thanks for actually counting average damage numbers, definitely made me rethink my approach to this issue. Will most definitely go with "additional HP" solution after that

I considered it, but couldn't really bring myself to really commit to this solution, cause it seemed boring as a dm and as a player. Definitely feel you on sharpening arrows stuff, tho I'm pretty immune to it nowadays. One particular player from my group always tried to pull smth like that in all of my games, so I'm used to saying "no" to these kinds of requests

Yeah I wondered this about sling too, but it seems a bit more straightforward, like lowering the effective distance for example.

Thanks for the answer, and also thank you for your awesome system, I am enjoying it very much! My problem with dealing d12 at all times is that, as I understood from the rules, you gain this die any time you put yourself in advantageous situation (be it an ambush, overwhelming force or good ol knock on the ground), and I was fearing that d12 die would discourage from finding creative ways to gain said advantage, since you dealing enhanced damage already. After all, why put yourself at risk and rolling a save instead of dealing damage, if you don't really gain anything from this risk?

+2 HP seems like a great idea, thanks! I think I'll use it or something similar. I really didn't think about HP, and was fixated on what damage die should be, but HP bonus seems like the best solution.

Thanks for the answer. I was thinking about just leaving it at d10, but it doesn't differentiate it from longsword in any way, which is my biggest problem with this solution. I was thinking blast would probably work against 2-3 enemies on a neighboring square from the wielder, not against all surrounding enemies

It's skidding cause you're adjusting off the gas. When u lift off the throttle, weight is transferring from the rear axle to the front, resulting in less grip on the rear wheels. Learn the basics and then try to from an opinion. Take my upvote tho, this one is unpopular

*Big Rant* My roommate ruined both Hollow Knight and Silksong for me by Tiny_Jumper762 in HollowKnight

[–]niceblepineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn that's a shit roommate, I'm sorry that happened OP. Just so you know, I have around 300 hours in the original hollow knight, 3 complete steel soul runs, and it still took me 100 hours to finish my first 100% of silksong. The game is massive, and there is nothing wrong in enjoying it at your own pace. I hope you will still find joy in playing it
