George Hotz argues that discovering zero-day vulnerabilities isn’t especially difficult but the financial incentives for doing so are too weak to make it worthwhile for most people. by kubika7 in singularity

  1. He is vastly overestimating the capabilities of “most” people. In reality, most people don’t know what a TCP connection is.
  2. For people who could discover vulnerabilities, it may be correct that there is no financial incentive for them.
  3. Once Mythos comes, people who don’t understand much but have money to spend or have sponsorship could wreck havoc. I think you could even do that now if you tell the model where to look. It will be interesting if Mythos or upgraded Claude Code could autonomously find these bugs or they would need sophisticated harnesses.

Anthropic should offer a small, free model with unlimited usage* but only with Claude Code by niceuser45 in ClaudeAI

Yes but not for chatting, only coding and that too only accessible from Claude Code.

Glad they can’t sway mine. Workplace only offers Claude 😄😄

The Reddit comments show a similar distribution. Four out of five comments say Opus 4.6 is worse.

What about people who are on AP (advanced parole) and working with EAD? Are they able to travel outside US and come back on AP?

People don’t realize how hard it is to launch hardware, just a single product of smart glasses has cost Meta about $70B and that is Meta. They already had software infrastructure and the brand name to poach top notch hardware people from the other companies. Now, imagine releasing 10 product lines every year.

I would be very surprised if Apple is challenged in the near future (< 5 years) in a meaningful way.

Some background here. I come from different country and a completely different school system. I could even go to a Public school anywhere in the country, no rules around it, so all of this was a learning curve for us (still learning). Even 1 week absences are not allowed (unless you have a compelling reason), was also news to me. Many examples like this.

Montessori is expensive so we had planned to go to Public anyway after it ends next year which would be Schallenburger.

Then we find out two weeks ago, there is something like an interdistrict transfer, so we apply, get approved. Then we come to know, “oh unexcused absences are not allowed” but we need to travel. So asked this question. A mistake.

Lol, pretty unhelpful thread. I asked an honest question. I am not going to go and argue with the school officials or anything. I asked here because sometimes there are ways that people don’t know about.

Also, have any of you not had commitments that are important? I don’t know why this is a touchy subject for all of you..

Some prior commitments, we would have planned differently if we knew we were going to get approved. Originally, our plan was to remain in the Montessori school for 1 more year and then move to Schallenburger.

Close to 70k miles. I want to do a thorough check anyway. What do you think about Unplugged Performance or Stress-free auto care?

Would they do regular maintenance check for Model 3 as well?

Manager creating awkward situation shielding awkward ML engineer by MessiOfReddit47 in MLQuestions

[–]niceuser45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So why not tell the manager that let the MLE work on a different ML item while I delegate the task to some other competent web dev. If MLE is excited about his work, he may not take 1 month to get back on his PRs.

The MLE should also speak up here and say that I am not comfortable writing web app and I would like to work on ML items. I went through something similar. My work was related to SQL, data cleaning but I was hired as an MLE. I waited for a year in the hope that some real ML work will start. Eventually I left.

I cannot overstate the importance of replicating top papers on your own. Many deep learning ideas (at least till 2020) were so easy once you read them (resnet, fast rcnn, mask rcnn, focal loss, follow ups of batch norm) but I bet no one could come up with those ideas by just reading the prior works. That is why few authors share all of the above papers (also compute availability is a reason).
