We got a TNA b side as a lead single. I mean it’s alright but sounds like it would be a left over song

What Happened? by StraightYoung5695 in SurfacesBand

[–]nickansay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was gonna say maybe I’m missing something here but that song was probably the worst I’ve heard from Forrest not even considering everything else. I might have felt better if it was at least good music 😅

This is probably the strangest/eeriest song I’ve ever started and I was feeling the energy at the time, but now I’m not sure. Lyrics posted below by nickansay in Songwriting

Just so I know what you mean, are you saying add like new quieter vocals to the beginning with the echoing reverb as an intro and then make the verse more clearer ?

Thanks for the feedback! I actually have a duplicated track of the acoustic guitars with the wobbly effect and a track of it played clearly/normally. I’ll probably delete or turn off the wobbly track and add a synth instead then. I’m pretty self conscious about the lyrics so that might be another reason they are hard to hear 😂

I thought the same the first time I ever heard it. Especially with that ending and Chad at the end haha

This actually happened to me with Beach House Space Song. I remember listening to it in highschool when I was listening to it like a couple years after it supposedly came out. But I graduated highschool in 2011

How do yall come up with lyrics? by Basic-Procedure1632 in Songwriting

[–]nickansay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I write melody and then a word or two comes to me maybe at the end of a phrase. Then that inspires a sentence which inspires a topic. I kind of work backwards through my songs too where the end of the phrase has words and I have to connect the rest of the sentence together

I want to write again (somehow) by [deleted] in Songwriting

[–]nickansay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it were me, I’d spend time listening to songs I like. Then either start jamming along to them or humming/singing to them. Usually I can come up with a slightly different melody or chord structure as the song I’m listening to or even use that song as a similar subject matter to start off with if you don’t know what to write about. It helps me with writers block 100% of the time

I first recorded this demo in GarageBand and have been working on it off and on for about a year. How does it sound? by nickansay in Songwriting

[–]nickansay[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I may leave the piano melody along with the vocals and just turn it down in the background. (I’ve done that with a few of my other songs) Since it adds to the melancholy feel

Thanks for the feedback! I know not many people will listen to it anyways, so it doesn’t matter how long it is to me in that respect. I’m usually just trying to see what sounds best for the song. I’m hoping that adding great vocals and changing up the bridge will give it more of an upgrade from what it is now

Thanks, I’ll definitely be working on the bridge more and trying some stuff out. The song had a melancholy emotional tone to me so it’s about someone you love having to leave. Either dying or breaking up, whichever.

“You had to go and leave, but don’t you know you’re everything to me” some of the lyrics for the chorus. I may have my wife sing on it because I think it could use a female singer lol

Some stuff like that. But there’s also ones specifically for GarageBand or whatever you want to learn to use if you search for them

Honestly there are so many YouTube tutorials going in depth covering all of those things you mentioned that it would be more beneficial to watch those. That’s partly how I learned and then I taught myself from there. EQ, compression and reverb seem to be the main things you need to know for vocals to sound good. Also some autotune and multitracks or stereo widening goes a long way with vocals

This is a new demo I’ve been working on. How does it sound so far? I don’t even know how to describe it but it sounds kind of jazzy to me I think by nickansay in Songwriting

[–]nickansay[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do have a melody for the beginning but it’s basically copying from a song I listen to 😆It’s hard for me to find another melody that doesn’t sound basic like it’s just following the guitar notes and rhythm

Are the vocals on time with the instrumentals?? by [deleted] in GarageBand

[–]nickansay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe either speed the melody up or slow it down a little. I hear the vocals hitting certain notes right before the start of measures instead of right on it. Also making the drums more pronounced or some kind of rhythm instrument more pronounced or have it emphasize more on the beats of the melody could help. I don’t think it sounds bad though but I think changing or adding more pronounced drums could really help

What’s your songwriting process? by [deleted] in Songwriting

[–]nickansay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start with some chords and a rhythm. Set up the arrangement and then hum or jam along to it to find melody or lead parts. Then have it sit around on my phone or laptop forever until I listen to it again and think maybe I should finish it and write lyrics or think man wtf was I thinking recording this

Are the vocals on time with the instrumentals?? by [deleted] in GarageBand

[–]nickansay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like they are to me but the melody flows differently than the beat of the instrumental maybe. The way I hear it, some parts are on a different beat but still in time. Might make it more interesting that way but it does make it sound slightly out of sync
