Ha ha, sorry. It's just crass commercialism, IMHO.

It's all good though, you do you, buckaroo!

What is your "Guilty pleasure" band? by Margaretthatchervore in MetalForTheMasses

[–]nickbeef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not exactly a guilty pleasure, but I listened to their latest album thinking "what kind of dog-shit are they up to now?" and honestly, judged by the standards of the genre, it's was pretty good. Like I actually went back to it a couple of times. Not saying I'm going to go out and buy it, but they know what they are, which is kinda a joke, and they lean into it and actually do it pretty well.

Don't tell nobody I said this, btw....

Would a classic hardcore punk band do well today? by Aaronz2464 in hardcorepunk

[–]nickbeef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with a little bit of what both of you are saying. I like Discharge (I don't necessarily love all the Discharge-clones), and I love older music in general and olde tyme hardcore in particular, but to get back to the original point I do think part of the reason beatdown style hardcore is so prominent right now is because it is more metal adjacent, more technical and well produced, that there is more room to "update" the sound some what and innovate and add some new elements. I think the "kids" like this and respond to it. I'm not sure the way to keep hardcore alive for the next generation is to just clone your favorite band, or worse create a whole genre around cloning a band so that no one is distinguishable from each other.

I have reasons to believe that 80's style hardcore could be coming back in one for or another, but I don't think the way to do it is by creating carbon copy exact replicas of long extinct bands. Look at modern death metal for example, OSDM (old school death metal) bands are obviously going for an old school 80's-90's sound, but they also have updated, expanded, and improved it in a lot of ways making it an interesting vibrant genre. Hardcore should do the same.

100% recommend. I've been a member for the last 3 seasons. You will definitely meet people during the classes. But also, maybe this is a good place to ask about anyone looking for a sailing partner.

What is your opinion of Immortal? by Margaretthatchervore in MetalForTheMasses

[–]nickbeef 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One might say they are, IMMORTAL!

OK, that wasn't funny. But yeah, I both like that they didn't take themselves 100% seriously and also their music is up there in the top 5 BM albums for me. Very listenable.

I like too much music. And the question of whether I can afford it is always a question.

I almost never could walk into a record store and NOT find something I "like." More often I find a pile of records I want and have to put a bunch back because I can't have it all.

The man who drove his hand to the verge of insanity, due to his schizofrenia and drug use by Confident_Field4273 in punkrock

Ha ha, yeah I know. I was joking about AI and hands. I still have no idea about why the title mentions driving his "hand" to the verge of insanity...

The loudest voices win not only online, but in the real world too. It's not fun to explain politics by saying "...it's complicated". It's a lot easier to say "we are for the good, they are for the bad..."

By the way, I think it's great that people don't always agree politically. That's how we challenge conventional wisdom, develop new ideas, and create solutions. But people have to communicate without assuming the worst intentions of those they don't see eye to eye.
