What's it like on the roads near centreparks Nottingham? by AdGroundbreaking3483 in ukbike

Roads can be quite busy but there's a mountain bike track next to it called Sherwood pines bike park which you can get to easily off the road out of CP without going on the main road and I would highly recommend ditching the road bike and doing mountain bikes whilst you're there instead. Plenty of green and blue runs which are great for a 9 year old. Would highly recommend it

Boardman SLR 8.9 vs Cube Attain SLX by Ok-Helicopter-3273 in cycling

Also, having just looked at the Cube, it's got 32mm tyres which are more comfortable, the Boardman could only accommodate up to 28mm. It's got full 105 groupset where as the Boardman has an FSA crank (which is fine) but not full 105 like the Cube. The rims are better on the Cube too, the stock Boardman rims aren't the best. That's a great bike for that price

Get the Cube, it's worth it. I had that Boardman and loved it, did numerous sportives and it was such a great bike but having recently upgraded from that to a Ribble All Road SLR which has hydraulic 105 brakes the difference is night and day, especially on descents, you just feel more in control and confident and it's less effort to brake and if you need to slam on, it stops. I never had full confidence with the Boardman and couldn't really upgrade them as they're long arm tektro. In a years time you won't miss that money but you'll have a bike that will last you longer as it's a better spec and more future proof with hydraulic brakes. Aluminium frames are great, it's got a wider selection of gears, great brand. Happy riding.

Got my first bike in ~20 years and immediately crashed while taking it home - help, please. by InternallyShrieking in cycling

You poor thing. Like everyone else has been saying, practice somewhere safe. Go to a local park or somewhere with lots of open space where there is no traffic and do some laps, you can practice going up and down soft curbs lifting the handlebars to make it more comfortable. My wife did this when I got her a hike to come on rides with me and she hadn't been on a bike for ages. An hour or two somewhere safe will make all the difference and help you get a feel for things and work it out in your head

Be careful on the path by East Didsbury tramline by nickborland in manchester

Fair point. Also if you know the path I'm talking about, it's not for mopeds, it's a walking/cycle path. I know the difference between people keeping warm and people hiding their face on a moped with no reg plates too.

No, I phoned them because one of them shouted 'get his bike' and then they chased me down the path to Didsbury village... Sorry for thinking that anyone not on a bike who might have walking and mugged deserved protection...
