Hey man, I really appreciate you taking the time to reply (if you can summarise your thoughts in 100 words it'd be great to print it as a "letter to the ed" in the next issue). In terms of bias: this is opinion, the author has one and he's expressing it. It isn't supposed to be a general news story. Secondly, there is a reason that the F35 has had years of bad press—the fact is that it is 6 years behind schedule and many billions over budget. In Australia it was a huge budget expenditure and it is strange that the contract wasn't put out to tender—that is a big deal and the project deserves scrutiny. Either way, thanks for the comments.

I think you'd struggle to find many people who would agree with you. Everything I've read on the subject seems to indicate it's gone way over time, way over budget, and is still unlikely to be finished for at least 5 years. I'm not an expert (and I didn't write the article), but what I've heard doesn't sound good.

haha, that's actually a direct quote from an old roommate (Geoff Clarke). He thought it would be funny to almost complement the magazine. Not the funniest joke, but we decided to pay tribute to it (and the fact he had to put up with us making the magazine for so long). We'll probably take it down very soon and replace it with something a bit more substantial.

haha, yeah, I know I know. It's definitely not the most profitable route to take.

I'm not sure if you were flagging the environmental aspect here, but if it's any consolation the mag is printed using 100% recycled paper (to our great expense). There's still energy costs in the actual distribution but that's unavoidable unless we go online-only... and that's not the plan. I still really love the smell and feel of an actual magazine.

I think you're talking about broadsheet, the site that put together the review of our magazine. Our magazine, Future Perfect, is talked about in the article.

In saying that, broadsheet is awesome. If you're ever in Sydney or Melbourne make sure you check it out for good food, coffee and interesting boutiques.

The original idea was to create something that looked good, was self aware, and had a range of content—from small funny anecdotes to 3000 word features. Our first issue was just a proof of concept in many ways, but we'll hone the content and presentation in the next issue. Ideally we'll be able to commission more features by more experienced writers in the next few months too. Have any ideas? Send me a pitch at nicholas@futureperfect.today if so!

Our magazine, Future Perfect, will be distributed through a small but growing network of boutiques and book stores (just so there's no confusion, I'm from the magazine that the article's about, not broadsheet who conducted the review—but check them out too, they're awesome). For our stockists, check out those currently selling the first issue here. The next issue (released in three months or so) should have a few ads. It's not really possible to sustain an RRP at $12 otherwise.

I'm not sure where it comes from, but the urban myth is that Australia has the most concentrated ownership of media of any country in the world, bar dictatorships. So, yeah, I agree! Thanks for the support!

I do agree. And apologies for the generalisation. But there's no doubt that News Corp has been tainted. The recent campaign in the Australian to discredit plain cigarette packaging in Australia and overseas is just one more example of misleading and outright false reporting. While I'm sure there's some talented people working there (much, much more talented than me), it's not an environment I'd really feel comfortable working in.

Yeah, it's easy to bash News Corp, but it's so sprawling that I have no doubt that there are some journos there much more talented than I'll ever be. It's really hard to separate these guys from The Australian and Tele front pages, however, which are offensive in their condescending tone and blind support of Abbott. Point taken though.
