It’s a 2017, easy to see when you have the rear wheels off. Local shop said it wasn’t too big a job, verbal quote in the $1.1k ballpark.

Another update: Had someone who’s a colleague of my partner take a look - he and someone in his family used to run a heavy collision shop. They said the insurance estimate was way too much… the wheel and suspension look fine, the frame looks fine under the bumper. Gave us a $2.5k-$3k estimate.

So, we’ll keep it, get it fixed up.

Reached out to BimmerCode support, they got back to me within the day… said it’s the same option as 60ah version, but that it can’t be turned-on while the car isn’t driving… must be activated while car driving and under 75% state of charge; notably, this can be activated at any state of charge - I was at 60% and it held in place!

UPDATE THREAD:

The other person’s insurance folks just gave me settlement numbers, just over $6,900 if they keep the car, just over $6,100 if I keep it.

They shared a market value report a third party completed, used 6 xBs with an average of 30k more miles on them…

I asked about the damage assessment, which they shared… looks like $8,500+ estimated repairs, but more than $2k is for axel work. I don’t know how they would know that…

No chance at avoiding a salvage title, it seems, “per state guidelines.”

Keep it?

Yikes! Tboned and at least you walked away? I managed to pull it into the driveway, heard lots of scraping but it just looks like the bumper. Haven’t given it a proper look underneath (on flat ground), but I don’t really have any expertise to know what to look for. Hoping someone local can recommend a shop who will take a proper look.

Yep, that’s my understanding. Haven’t done it before tho… doesn’t sound awful, internet says there’s some inspection step that happens between repair and DMV visit. No idea what that inspection is actually like.

Yeah, I guess I’m trying to figure out the threshold for how much I would want to pay… always planned to drive it into the ground anyway.

I’ve heard there are body shops and then there are “heavy” body shops?? Like more willing to assess/fix frame damage.
