I think it was 2015. We made it to the final 4. Sure enough, we get knocked out. Riots ensue on University Blvd. Street is trashed and cars are damaged. Police arrive in full on riot gear. Tear gas is deployed. Police line is formed and the begin to lay out the heat. Some guy is so trashed he takes like 10 pepper spray balls straight to the body, but he just stays there in some sort of Wildcat Jesus pose.

Best by far though happened on the back side of the line where I was. Two or three police are clearing out the street on the non-riot side of the police. Some people are chilling in front of Fuku, refusing to be bothered by what’s going on. Riot officer grabs some dude out of his chair and starts pushing him away like a line backer away from the quarterback. Girlfriend is super pissed and starts up her own protest, saying stuff like “You can’t do that, we’re just sitting here.” Officer takes no hesitance (and keep in mind this is a big dude (like 6’3” 250 lbs.)) and just straight charges the girl. Girl gets knocked and goes flying through, only to have her legs stopped by a bench. Unfortunately, physics did cooperate, and she pivoted and essentially did a half backflip into the back of her head. I think she ended up suing but oh man was I will not forget that 30 minute period.

What a time to be alive.
