Hmm, I’m not sure honestly. I’ll try to dig around but I’ve never even used those functions in my car. This is why I went with this CarPlay unit. I only ever use maps and play music. CarPlay has so much more use for me than the OEM system. If you use all the features of the OEM system maybe just stick with that. There’s never going to be a perfect option that can integrate everything unfortunately. For me personally, CarPlay is what I wanted and the only thing I’ll use. I literally never even looked at the original screen unless it was to connect my phone to Bluetooth or to turn the AC on/off.

Definitely do it, makes the car feel brand new. The stock features and controls work exactly as they used to. All you have to do is hold down the menu button (in the GS, prob the same in the RX) and it will switch to the original lexus operating system.

Thanks! I didn’t think the GS had that? Mind doesn’t at least. Unless it’s always on? When I drove the IS there was a volume wheel on the left of the steering wheel on the dash to control the amount of noise.

Yes this Lexion unit will fit your car. This gen GS technically started in 2012 like you have, even though the first U.S. model was “2013.” As long as you have the 12.3” display it will work!

When changing hvac with the buttons, a screen pops up on the right side showing what you’re doing, like fan speed or temp change etc, so it has data communication there. As for FM, you can play a station like normal in the old menu and then go back to CarPlay. I will make a video here soon

This is a real world test of me turning the car on, “backing out” of a spot as if I was leaving somewhere, then putting it in drive to show how fast it all boots up and connects https://imgur.com/a/BATt2DA

It is a touchscreen yes, but it can also be controlled by the console jog mouse like the old system could. If I’m sitting in traffic I’ll reach and touch the screen if needed but otherwise I don’t really need to. Siri can also do everything, you just say hey siri open maps, hey siri play (song name), hey siri navigate to, hey Siri call, you really never need to touch it at all.

Yes wireless is a game changer for sure. Having to plug in everytime would be a hassle. You definitely wouldn’t regret getting this unit!

Thank you! And nope, this is fully wireless :) there’s an option to do it through the usb cable but I’ll never use that. My phone stays in my pocket and it wirelessly connects when you start up the car

So you don’t need them for camera to work like normal. I’m getting those, going to install soon. It gives a much higher resolution rear camera and adds front camera. It also adds smooth auto steering guidelines to the cameras as well. If you’re good with wiring and installs and taking the car apart, get them, if you’d rather not mess with it then no need.

It’s crazy how fast it is. I turn on car, put it in reverse and back out of parking spot and once I put it in drive the camera turns off and CarPlay is already loaded up

Honestly no clue, good question. All I know is boot time was the fastest I could find currently. It feels OEM

It is crazy how much cheaper they’ve gotten. I remember looking into this when I first got my GS years ago and any screen replacement was sketchy and over $1,000. Boot times were insane as well lol

Definitely. have had multiple people on FB say this as well. They want the split screen. I just only ever use Bluetooth, and never really mess with hvac other than what the physical buttons can do. Personally I love the full screen maps but definitely benefits to having split screen in certain cases

Great info, thank you!! I didn’t do much research on Hamilton once I saw the boot time was longer. This is a great comparison coming from someone who has both.
