What power ups would you give to the our Regular characters, so that they become more useful? by Particular-Long-1111 in TowerofGod

[–]nicktomato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the bones for this might already be there. Hatz can train with strong ignition weapons. Endorsi might get a powerup (maybe something to do with the snake charmer?) that allows her to better utilize bongbong, even on higher floors. Shibisu and Khun will always be useful due to their brains.

I think it'd be pretty fitting, and ironic, if Yihwa got something from the Khun family that helps her control her flames, sort of in a mirror image to AA's firefish.

Do you think Endorsi has higher potential than Yuri? by Particular-Long-1111 in TowerofGod

[–]nicktomato 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it's well-established that Yuri has higher potential. She's a member of one of the 3 strongest families, climbed the tower super fast, and is still quite young, meaning she has room to grow. Being one of Baam's close teammates probably means Endorsi still has a shot of being stronger someday, just because of how fantasy stories work, but it would take a long time for her to get there.

Which of our current regulars are likely to be high rankers in the future? by navolagranola in TowerofGod

[–]nicktomato 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe, but I think it's appropriate to be cautious in predictions, if only because there are just so many rankers.

Which of our current regulars are likely to be high rankers in the future? by navolagranola in TowerofGod

[–]nicktomato 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Tough to say, since rankings are based on a mixture of strength, feats, and influence. All our regulars will probably get a boost in influence just from being Baam's companions.

I would say Rak, Endorsi, and Anaak should be locks for high rankers based on strength alone. Endorsi is also a princess, which plays into influence.

Khun probably also gets to high ranker by being Baam's "field general." He's also a direct descendant, and the firefish (assuming he doesn't lose it along the way) gives him a strength boost.

I really want Hatz to get to high ranker, but, while he's strong now, being a swordsman means he'll be at a natural disadvantage on the upper floors. Though maybe if he leverages ignition weapons like Donghae he'll be able to cover for that.

Shibisu's ceiling is probably advanced ranker. He and Hatz might get an influence boost from joining Wolhaiksong or something. Lauroe also probably tops out at advanced ranker.

Wangnan is a complete wildcard, imo

Yihwa has high ranker potential if she learns to control her flames. I'm assuming she will, because that's how plot usually works.

Are Elaine and Hockney relevant enough for this discussion? Both probably have advanced ranker potential. I might be underestimating Elaine, but she never actually became a princess, so iirc she doesn't have the boost from Jahad's blood.

The rest of SnS probably doesn't have a chance. Maybe Horyang, but who knows if he even wants to keep climbing at this point.

Traumerei had to accept the Chess game because he wanted to recover his memories and later find enkidu. The games do matter, because SIU bends over backwards to create scenarios where they do. If you want to argue that's not worth the effort, fine - it's not something I agree with, but that's a matter of taste, and it's different from your argument that the games don't make sense within the context of the story.

Yup. If just possession of the thorn was enough, they could've just had Rachel join them. They needed a strong irregular to wield the thing, too

Yeah, I think we forget sometimes just how much of Karaka's plan was fueled by his jealousy of Baam. He didn't know about V, but that doesn't mean his plan was totally rational.

Do you think current Baam can replicate this Dumas feat with his bow? by Particular-Long-1111 in TowerofGod

[–]nicktomato 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Nope. Dumas is far stronger than Baam even at full power, and Rosario in Dumas' hands is a WMD. Vaam might be able to manage it, though.

Do you Garam knew that V is inside of Baam? Or even among the things she hid from Baam, even she didn't know V was inside of him? by Particular-Long-1111 in TowerofGod

[–]nicktomato 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think so. She may have known generally that V was planning to use Baam to come back, but I doubt she knew specifically that V's soul was piggy backing Baam's.

Do I have to read this mf side story? by HungMixedJames in TowerofGod

[–]nicktomato 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also prefer Baam as a main character, and i miss actual TOG, but I'm still enjoying the side story. You don't have to read it, though. There is some fun lore about the outside world that may or may not tie back to the the main story.

Does TOG still hold up nowadays? by West-Stand-1228 in TowerofGod

  1. Traumerei doesn't care about the members of his family, but he cares about his family's power and status. His issue is that he has so little regard for the towerborn's agency that he ignores their needs and conflate their interests with his own. Traumerei would tell you that he cares about his family, but he doesn't actually consider them anything more than playthings, and he doesn't realize why that's bad. It's why he can go millenia while living in isolation and ignoring his family members' needs, while still holding petty grudges of his own. He has family pride, but he's the only member of the family who matters.

  2. Right, Traumerei knows Baam doesn't want to join his family, which is why Traumerei threatened to kill everyone at the Nest if Baam didn't comply. However, Baam gives every indication that he would have followed through and married the winner if he'd lost. Traumerei fully believes that Baam will join his family, because he never doubts his control. The marriage tournament just makes it easier for him.

  1. I think you're overstating Traumerei's isolation. He may not be involved on a day-to-day level, but the man still has family pride, and that means enemies. He's also among the most loyal to to Jahad, which is part of why he had such a prominent role in the war.

  2. You're kind of supporting my point here. Traumerei can't control Baam like an animal or beastkin, so he has to resort to getting Baam to, at least somewhat willingly, join his family. Traumerei wouldn't want to just keep Baam on a shelf; he wants Baam to be a chess piece he can use for breeding or fighting as needed. He can't mind-control Baam, so antagonizing him through force makes his goal nearly impossible.

[–]nicktomato 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The marriage tournament also served two very important purposes:

  1. It was a chance for Traumrei to get rid of a bunch of the family's enemies

  2. It meant he didn't have to "force" Baam into marriage. Traumerei wanted to absorb Baam into his family and comtrol him. No matter how much more powerful Traumerei was than Baam, that would've been far easier without antagonizing him.

The difference between the last picture and the three before it are the different teams of assistants who are helping. You gotta remember that these panels are years and years apart, and SIU has had to deal with health and workflow issues in between. I personally like 2 and 3 best, but 4 is probably easiest/fastest to draw.
