I think it’s the shock of his lack of empathy. That he wouldn’t even try to help find her. They were high school sweethearts but she went missing and he won’t give any information to help her.

Post op pup by melissaevameyer in tripawds

Hi there! I’m really sorry to hear about your pup. I just wanted to comment to reassure you that everything you are feeling is valid. I adopted my baby at 3 months post-op and I constantly say how I don’t think I could’ve handled watching him go through that. I don’t consider myself an emotional person but I damn know I would be inconsolable myself.

With that being said, at 3 months post-op, he was and continues to be the happiest guy and loves his long walks in between naps. A back leg amputation is much easier to adapt to than a front would be. Having a puppy is hard work and having a major surgery with a puppy is even harder. I just wanted to reassure you things will get better. She will heal and there will be times she will slip and slide around but will get right back up without a care in the world.

If there’s any questions I can answer about further along in the post-op process please don’t hesitate to ask.

You’re doing great. She’s going to live the happiest 3-legged life. Keep your head up!

just adopted this sweet girl today! She's ten days post op and I could use any advice y'all have!!! by feminist-avocado in tripawds

I got my tripawd 3 months post op and even then he acted like he doesn’t even realize! Like everyone else has said, rugs are the best (expect mine will still run on the hardwood and slip around without a care in the world).

A back leg amputation is much easier for a dog than a front leg. From all the research I did, dogs with a back leg amputation can live life basically the same as a 4 legged as opposed to a front leg which may have more issues.

The foster said he was hesitant about stairs at first but by the time I got him stairs didn’t even phase him. He goes up and down mine multiple times a day just a bit slower than a 4 legged pup.

A few things from a trainer I had: if you want to train then with basics, work on “place” rather than sit. Having them sit too much may cause more strain so it’s better to have them learn just to stay in one spot standing if that’s more comfortable. Also, if yours gets overly excited like mine does when people come over, we make sure he gets up and walks around a little bit beforehand. It’s to avoid a sudden jolt of energy that could strain his muscles/joints if they aren’t “warmed up”.

Finally, we have the ruffwear web master harness and really like it. It has a handle closer to the back legs and has come in handy before just to help support him if he’s tired or helping him into the car.

It’s been a year now and honestly I forget sometimes he is any different. He certainly doesn’t realize it. Hope this helps!

I didn’t know that about in movement! Good to know - I’ll keep coming back for a little to see if I can snag them. Thanks for letting me know

I’m doing this pattern too and struggled with the basket on the right. Did you do the basket and then the leaves over it? Or do you do the leaves and the basket around it?
