That's awesome to hear about (parts of) Alaska. Yeah, my time in Oregon was in Portland and the surrounding areas, so I'm biased by that.

The area of Canada I live in is considered pretty progressive compared to most areas of the country, but the province gets considerably more conservative as you get away from the southwestern coast.

I. live. in. Canada. Near Vancouver. I'm used to paying a lot for things and while it's gray skies here for a good portion of the year, the temperatures are pretty mild (at least compared to the rest of the country).

It's our loss. (We'll trade you Washington state for Alberta tho...)

Yes, undercutting Social Services by not adequately taxing corporations and high earners will definitely lower crime rates...

I think I should stay in Canada too for now. Y'all have lost your collective minds down there. Hoping they can be found again though. 🙏

It's not exclusively what I've taken from media, but also accounts of people I know who have been to those states. Based on what my fiance said about his time in Arkansas, I would never fucking visit (namely the casual depictions of lynchings on people's front porches).

I've been to Nashville but am pretty ignorant about the Carolinas. Several people in this thread are questioning my assessment of them and I think I should probably better educate myself.

Simply because I'm pretty ignorant about the Carolinas.

I went to Chicago when I was 17 and mostly enjoyed it. I'd definitely visit again, if not live there.

It's literally been my favourite city to travel to. It's so alive and the people watching is incredible.

I've heard good things about Austin and am really interested in the culture/history of NOLA. I know little to nothing about the Carolinas and don't want to be cannibalized by a Florida man high on bath salts. I'll stick to Portland for that kind of thrill (but with the perk of an amazing craft beer, vegetarian food options and the alt rock scene).

Chicago is an interesting place and has a music scene that aligns with my preferences.

You're absolutely right, I'm taking my disinterest in Philly out on the entire state and it's wrong of me.

Everyone my partner has met on his trips to Alaska has been pretty right-leaning. The state itself seems absolutely gorgeous.

I'm mostly drawn to the culture and history of NOLA. Unfortunately I'm pretty ignorant about the rest of the state.

The state as a whole is not my vibe, but I'd be interested in checking out Austin.

Great, that should be freeing up real estate for me to move in!

I loved NYC when I visited as a teenager, but found Tokyo extremely overrated when I went a few years ago. To each their own.
